GraphQL with Entity Framework Core and then more Entity Framework Core

Details

This meetup features two talks around Entity Framework - first of which centers around GraphQL

** Entity Framework Core ** by Erik Ejlskov Jensen

Entity Framework (EF) Core is a lightweight and extensible version of the popular Entity Framework data access technology.

EF Core is an object-relational mapper (O/RM) that enables .NET developers to work with a database using .NET objects. It eliminates the need for most of the data-access code that developers usually need to write.

In this session, Erik Ejlskov Jensen will give you an overview of EF Core, how it relates to it's predecessor Entity Framework 6 and what the plans are for future versions of Entity Framework (both 6 and Core).

There will also be demos of new features in the latest versions of EF Core 2.x, including best practices advice.

In addition, Erik will give you a tour of "EF Core Power Tools", a free Visual Studio extension he maintains, that will boost your EF Core development efforts.

** GraphQL with Entity Framework Core ** by Toni Petrina

Tired of writing REST APIs? Mapping DTOs to entities and vice versa? Want to have a standard and clear way of fetching multiple (related) entities? The answer just might be GraphQL - a new way of building backends for your APIs. We'll explore how to use existing knowledge to write simple data access layer using Entity Framework Core and exposed as a GraphQL. You'll learn about authentication and authorisation, pagination, filtering, nested queries and much much more.

About the Speakers

Toni Petrina started in QBasic, went through C++ to C#, finally settled in ECMAScript. Worked on desktop, mobile and web apps, currently working as full stack developer. Microsoft MVP and frequent speaker at conferences, user groups and local events. He spends most of the time at the keyboard typing yet another demo or application. If you take his keyboard away from him, he will talk endlessly about code...and functional programming. Been coding for over a decade to know if something is a programming fad or not. And no, functional programming is not a fad at all. Strong proponent of Open Source and all things chocolate.

Erik Ejlskov Jensen is an Azure Data Developer at Cloudeon A/S. He is a 10 times Microsoft MVP. He maintains a number of open source projects on GitHub that relate to Entity Framework and data access development.
