PROGRAM:

TALK 1: Using R for official statistics

National Statistical Institutes like Statistics Denmark produce what is often referred to as ‘official statistics’. Official statistics has to fulfil certain demands, e.g. professional independence and sound methodology. These demands are defined by the European Statistics Code of Practice.

Employees from Statistics Denmark will demonstrate how R can be used for producing official statistics while emphasizing the use of sound methodology. The talk will take you through the production of a typical questionnaire based statistics taking the generic statistical business process model (GSBPM) as point of departure. We will refer to the CRAN Task View on official statistics which contains a lot of very useful R packages.

We will end the talk by briefly presenting our technical setup with RStudio Server, a local repository, Subversion, and Oracle.
