Introduction to Text Analytics and Natural Language Processing (plus hands-on)

February escaped us, but we are back in mid-March with a great agenda!
At this meetup, our guest speaker Nick Grattan will provide an introduction to Text Analytics techniques and practical usages. This will be followed by a hands-on tutorial implementing Word2Vec with Tensorflow.

Beer and pizza will be provided!!!

The schedule for the evening will include:

• Traditional “Frequentist” text analysis with Bag-of-Words and Vector Space Models. Measuring document / text similarity with distance metrics and clustering documents. Examples using Python and SciKitlearn.
• Word Embeddings with word2vec for semantic term analysis.
• HandsOn: Word2Vec implementation with TensorFlow. Create word embeddings from a corpus and explore word semantics.

Nick Grattan is an Application Architect at Dassault Systèmes, working on document and process management systems. He is also studying part-time for a PhD in Text Analytics at the Insight Centre, University College Cork, Ireland.

NOTES FOR HANDS-ON PARTICIPANTS:

1 ) We will use Amazon web-services (AWS) to access GPU compute power for the hands-on coding. To participate, please make sure you complete steps 1 and 2 from our first meetup instructions ( https://www.meetup.com/Cork-AI/events/244401049/ ) to get your AWS account set up and GPU access granted. (This takes a few days to come through, don't delay!!! ) . The AWS service is charged at $0.90 per hour so your cost for the meetup will be well below a euro!

2. Please ensure you have ssh installed - on Windows we recommend the putty client ( http://www.putty.org/ )
