Trail Run the Wissahickon!

Wake that metabolism up! Start the new year with a quick 4-5 mi run through the Wiss! We begin at 10:00am at the Sumac St. entrance (Sumac St. & Vicaris St.). Run on trail, catch the bike path on the return and finish with the 100 Stairs. I'm not aiming to beat a time (though I probably will be going for speed pending conditions).  However, I would rather participants be mindful of the slick leaves and rocks, ice, snow, and whatever else remains stuck to the ground, rather than race through the course and potentially injuring themselves. Rain doesn't cancel, however if ice or snow are on the horizon, consider it canceled. The route I plan to follow is shared with mountain bikers, to avoid injury, be mindful of bikers and allow them the right of way. Follow these basic safety tips.  I plan to run on the bike trail paralleling Lincoln for less than a mile.

I hope to make this a regular occurrence, and come springtime probably switch over to weeknights.

Parking: Road parking. R6 is a 3 block walk at the "Wissahickon" stop. Bus Routes 9, 27, 124, 125 run from Center City. Take to the "Wissahickon" Train Station. Follow Rochelle to Sumac to the treeline.

I start these early in the morning to allow for people to have their whole afternoons. Pending the time of year, and my inventory, feel free to join me in my tiny apt for a post-run brew.

Hi Lynda, not a problem! I'm gonna cancel it due to the snow making the route hazardous.

I have an event to go to in the afternoon so this is perfect. Hopefully I don't slow you down. I've been neglecting my trail runs for hiking lately!

Hi Terri, I average about 8.5 right now. I'm training to gain speed. However, that being said, I will hold back this time to photo journal the major junctions, and steer people along my path. After the last downhill it's pretty much back to dodge where we can all meet at the junction of sumac and Freeland. I think part of the fun of trail running is building your agility.

Hey Guys - sorry about the delay. Parking shouldn't be a problem, though there is train parking in both the lot and along Rochelle.

Hey Bill, I'm definitely interested, but my pace isn't what it used to be! What pace are you averaging?
