What we're about

Many of us crave deeper connections in life. Not only with others, but ourselves, the environment around us, the physical world we live in, the infinite universe, or The Divine itself. Creating connection can take on many meanings and can look different for each of us.

Whether you feel it through your mind, your body or inner being, Deep Connection eludes many of us, thanks, in part, to the noise of the distractions all around us every day. Technology, social media, cultural expectations, schedules too busy to manage, etc., all can dampen our ability to make the very connections that we're craving for in our every day lives.

In this meetup, we will explore these barriers to true connection and help uncover the key principles to breaking through into those 10 seconds of courage that can transform the way you interact and engage, while at the same time learning to exercise your listening muscle to take these connections beyond scratching the surface and into real, authentic relationships.

Utilizing effective models and practices such as Conversation Cafés, TED Talk Discussions, Retreats, & Workshops, Free Listening Stations, Reading Groups, Food & Nutrition Awareness, Physical Mindfulness, Pay-it-Forward Actions, the Zentangle Method, the Kindness Rocks Project, Care & Compassion Programs, Adult Colouring Therapy, and many others, a more compelling picture can begin to emerge for you, and help create a greater awareness of how everything is so very interconnected.

In the end, our goal is to create opportunities for you to experience this awakening and transformation, that in the end will allow you to find more connection and wholeness in your life. We look forward to our journey together.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou

Synopsis:
Sent by their mother to live with their devout, self-sufficient grandmother in a small Southern town, Maya and her brother, Bailey, endure the ache of abandonment and the prejudice of the local “powhitetrash.” At eight years old and back at her mother’s side in St. Louis, Maya is attacked by a man many times her age—and has to live with the consequences for a lifetime. Years later, in San Francisco, Maya learns that love for herself, the kindness of others, her own strong spirit, and the ideas of great authors (“I met and fell in love with William Shakespeare”) will allow her to be free instead of imprisoned.
Poetic and powerful, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings will touch hearts and change minds for as long as people read.

When: The 3rd Monday of every other month, at 7pm.

Your Host:
My name is Kelly Duff and from an early age I have loved reading. In recent years, I have especially loved the opportunities I’ve had to read stories by brand new authors through my volunteer work with Filidh Publishing; where I assist with preliminary edits of new manuscripts, as well as help with planning/running book launches and open mic events. I enjoy reading books from many genres, and I look forward to exploring the worlds of fiction and non-fiction with other avid readers!

The Promises We Carry

Susan Scott in conversation with Claudia Putnam

Some stories live with us for years, waiting for the right time to appear. Claudia’s story of her son, Jacob, will live on in her chapbook, Double Negative—meaning Jacob will live on, despite his imperfect heart failing him when he was an infant.

But what about other family members? Does a mother’s telling open fresh wounds for them? How are friends and relatives supposed to navigate renewed interest in enduring heartbreak?

Join us to explore how going public with one person’s truth impacts other people in their life.

Claudia Putnam is a writer, poet, and craniosacral therapist. Her short memoir, Double Negative, won the Split/Lip Press creative nonfiction chapbook prize. Her debut collection, The Land of Stone and River, won the Moon City Press poetry prize. A novella will be out later in 2022. Claudia has received several residency awards, including the year-long George Bennett Fellowship at Phillips Exeter Academy, in New Hampshire. She lives in Colorado, USA. Her surviving son, Julian, is a chef in Seattle.
