Announcing a new Meetup for Make New Friends, Make a Difference & Have Fun, FUn, FUN:-)!
What: Go shopping for awesome, idealistic and inspiring things.. or window browse:-)
When: Saturday, July 30, 2011 11:00 AM
Where: Nice Shoes
3568 Fraser Street
Ladies & Gentlemen
Recently, I've been reading a story about Rumana Monzur, a UBC student and how she was savagely and brutally beaten by an evil bastard. And instead of just being angry and stir up negative emotions i'd rather be pro-active and contribute what I can. As a result I will be holding a fundraiser (first Sunday in August hopefully) for Rumana Monzur's benefit as soon as I can pin down details. In the interim i sincerely hope you will seize the moment and do what you can, by buying what you can, buying something special for yourself, at a store called Nice Shoes on Saturday, July 30 at 11:00am - July 31 at 5:00pm.
We can all make a difference by doing thoughtful things, for someone whom we may never meet or see smile. But nonetheless we'll be happy knowing that a random act of kindness from one person can ripple all the way to someone innocent and stellar across in beautiful Vancouver or across the world... So i'll hope you'll do what you can. I know i am and always will. I hope you will too:-)
The following is what i cut and paste from their facebook link....
10% of all sales for the weekend, both in-store and online, will be donated to Battered Women's Support Services.
That's 10% of all items - including shoes, belts, wallets, bags, and ties.
BWSS is a great local organization doing vital work to end violence against women, and this is a great chance to pick up some nice new ethical footwear and support them!
About Battered Women's Support Services:
A determined group of women started Battered Women's Support Services in 1979. Our goal is the elimination of all violence against girls and women. We have been delivering training and education programs to support service providers and to end violence against girls and women for over 30 years. We provide direct service support and advocacy for girls and women who have experienced abuse, systemic advocacy, law reform, and for 21 years we have delivered a youth engagement in violence prevention program in public and private schools in British Columbia. In our effort to support zero waste and eco fashion, we are solid members of the thrift movement operating My Sister's Closet as a social enterprise in Vancouver, BC. In 2010, we launched The Violence Stops Here campaign, urging men to own their role in ending violence against girls and women.
