COMMUNITY DRUM CIRCLE - OUTDOORS!

Baylands Park

Mark your calendars for the last Saturday of every month - Community Drum Circle is happening! Find your groove in this friendly and supportive drum circle! I HAVE PLENTY OF DRUMS TO SHARE (firstT come, first served).

Recreational group drumming and music-making is a great practice that supports health & well-being. It's transformational: it can uplift your mood, decrease your blood pressure, decrease anxiety, increase your energy, increase your feelings of connection and IT'S JUST PURE FUN!

We welcome you to become part of this monthly drumming, music-making community. Bring your harmonica, flute, tongue drum, etc. to add to the mix - they add the "spice" to the drumming. This is a facilitated event; newcomers are always warmly welcomed and will be guided into finding their rhythms while more experienced drummers will have the chance to show us their chops while supporting the group experience. I have plenty of instruments to share (let me know if you need one).

Circle Singing - Vocal Exploration - Sing, hum, free your voice

Center For Creative Living

We start off with easy toning and warm up exercises as a group to get comfortable. We also do a free-from group sound exploration where we can safely hear our voice inside the group exploring pitch, tone, and rhythm. We also sing songs in oral tradition, along with drums.

"Circle singing is a spontaneous, improvisational community singing experience, a little bit like a "drum circle" for singers. Starting with a basic structure, we can discover endless variations. We take inspiration from methods developed by Bobby McFerrin and his collaborators, where circle song leaders create parts on-the-spot, and lead the group in making beautiful, inspired, goofy, or glorious music. Sing beautiful harmonies without sheet music, gain self-confidence, and delight in what we can create together by listening deeply -- to each other and to ourselves -- and responding to what blossoms. This is a "mistake-free" zone, for all levels of singers—we sing for the sheer fun of it! Come sing with us! -- description from Denver Circle Singing Group

I've been taking group classes from David Worm up in Oakland... also went to Omega weekend retreat w/ Bobby McFerrin, Rhiannon, and others.
