Renegade Economics. Very few Western economists foresaw the financial collapse of 2008. The handful who did see it coming were renegades, apostates from the dominant paradigm of the discipline, Neoclassical Economics. Chuck will provide a thumbnail sketch of the history of economic thought from the enlightenment-era up to the present day in order to explain how the school's dominance and its blindness to bubbles came about, and why these facts are neither accidental nor benign. In the words of renegade economist Michael Hudson, who is also the world’s foremost living historian of economic thought and systems, “There’s always an economic gain for some party in sponsoring bad theory.” Killing The Host, page 88 SPEAKER: Chuck Lindeburg grew up in Fairmont, Minnesota, and received a BA degree from St. Olaf College with majors in Physics and Philosophy. He is now retired from a forty-five-year marketing and product management career in information technology as used in real-time industrial applications, mainly electric utilities. He is a veteran of the U. S. Army and a Life Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Public Group

What is important is not what you think, but how you think. The Critical Thinking Club is devoted to presentations on controversial topics followed by group discussions to evaluate the quality of available information and help individual members to reach justified conclusions, and to avoid error. Critical Thinking Clubs meet monthly in St. Paul, Stillwater, Mankato and Minnetonka.
