The Crooked River Chapter of the Buckeye Trail Association is the chapter for those who live near or along the Akron (http://www.buckeyetrail.org/sections/sections.php?section=akron), Bedford (http://www.buckeyetrail.org/sections/sections.php?section=bedford), Burton (http://www.buckeyetrail.org/sections/sections.php?section=bedford), and Mogadore (http://www.buckeyetrail.org/sections/sections.php?section=mogadore) sections. These sections comprise the majority of the "Little Loop". Hikers who complete the "Little Loop" are eligible for a patch (http://www.buckeyetrail.org/circuit.php)! The CRC’s extent includes the Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Summit, Ashtabula, Trumbull, Portage, Mahoning and Stark Counties (Stark County is shared with the Muskingum Lakes Chapter). We support the Buckeye Trail through hiking, backpacking, and volunteer events.

The Buckeye Trail Association is the leader in building, maintaining, protecting and promoting use of Ohio's longest scenic hiking trail for our citizens, communities and partners. We provide outdoor recreation, opportunities to volunteer, education, access to the varied resources of Ohio and local economic benefits.

The Buckeye Trail, Ohio's State Scenic Trail, is a sustainable hiking trail that provides a safe and unique experience throughout the state reflecting the diverse resources, people and stories of Ohio. The trail is a dedicated, recognized and protected route developed and maintained by the Buckeye Trail Association, an organization reflective of the diversity of the trail. The Buckeye Trail Association works in close partnership with communities, organizations and agencies around Ohio creating a legacy for present and future generations.

Chapter Leadership Meeting

Garfield Heights Branch of Cuyahoga County Public Library

This is our quarterly chapter leadership meeting. General members are always welcome to come and participate. We will discuss status of current grants and funding, plans for the 2019 REI grant, Little Loop planning among other issues.

Work Weekend moving the BT out of the Bog II, and building 3 bridges.

Ottawa Point Picnic Grounds

Please arrive 15 to 20 minutes early to file the proper release forms. This way we can step off right on time. Thank You What we will be doing: Moving the BT out of the Bog II. We will do this by utilizing the Valley trail. The new BT, connecting from the Valley Trail to the existing BT will require 4 bridges. One 24ft timber stringer bridge. Two dimensional lumber stringer bridges. 1 is already there just needs to be moved. We will then close and reforest the old BT. Come and see the New Crooked River Chapter Mobile Tool Trailer! Camping will be available for Friday and Saturday nights. On site ammenities: Pit toilet, fire pit large pavilion. Firewood will be on hand. Water will NOT be available. Food will not be provided. Bring a small pack with a filled water bottle, lunch, work gloves, and hat. Wear comfortable work clothes, long sleeves, and long pants. Sturdy work boots required (not open-toed). Volunteer service hours verification can be provided. You will be required to sign a volunteer release form. Pizza Dinner will be provided Saturday night for the first 20 volunteers to rsvp. Northeast Ohio has a special advantage of having a 250 mile “Little Loop” of the Buckeye Trail. This presentation will give a brief history and evolution of Ohio's scenic hiking trail and a pictorial presentation of the sections that make up the “Little Loop”. Come take a virtual tour around the "Little Loop" and learn about the Little Loop Challenge - a collective effort to hike the entire Little Loop in one day!
