What we're about

Who we are:
We are a gleaning group in north San Diego county that harvests excess
fruit and delivers the bounty to local food banks. Presently we are
partnering with Feeding America and/or San Diego Food Bank to transport the fruit to their facilities
for distribution to their 230 agencies. We started out as a grassroots movement and are now a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing hunger and food waste in San Diego.

Why we want a Meetup group:
With over 30% of all food wasted and 1 in 6 people who are food insecure in
San Diego county, we created a food recovery nonprofit that would reduce hunger and waste in one sweet step to solve this problem. We are looking for like-minded individuals who would like to donate a few hours of their time on weekends either in a fragrant orchard or a busy Farmer's Market to help us harvest the extra bounty of San Diego County and deliver it to those in need.

We have two main food recovery programs operating in San Diego:

CropSwap ( is our flagship gleaning program that gives volunteers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to harvest excess fruit from from residential orchards in San Diego County. The donated fruit is then transported to local food pantries.

Locations for our gleans are in orchards all over North San Diego County, and the volunteer picker must provide their own transportation. Please check events page for times and locations.

Market Share ( gives volunteers opportunity to harvest seasonal produce from San Diego Farmer’s Markets. For these events, small teams of volunteers work to recover unsold produce from weekly markets, delivering the bounty to local agencies.

Volunteers must provide their own transportation.

We presently operate at Hillcrest Farmer's Market, La Jolla Farmer's Market and Solana Beach Farmer's Markets each Sunday. Please check event page for times and locations.
