Club FAQ

What kind of board games do you play?

Most of the time we play new types of tabletop board and games. Here are some of the games we play:

  • Agricola
  • Settlers of Catan
  • Carcassonne
  • Game of Thrones
  • The Resistance
  • Dominion
  • Power Grid
  • Manhattan Project

This short video from Shut Up & Sit Down is a great introduction to the types of games we play:

We don't play classic board games like Monopoly, Chess and Scrabble because it's easy to play these elsewhere.

There are clubs in Croydon that cater for collectible card games or wargames too, so you won't find us playing these here either.

Where do you hold the game nights?

Usually at The Ludoquist board games café in central Croydon - https://www.theludoqu...

Occasionally at other venues around Croydon – we have met in the past at Matthews Yard, The Green Dragon, The Skylark and Fairfield Halls.

When do you meet?

Our main gaming evening is every Wednesday from 7pm to 11pm.

We also meet most Monday evenings from 7pm. The Monday event is aimed at welcoming new gamers – both people who are completely new to modern tabletop gaming and people who are new to the group.

It's great if people arrive promptly so we can figure out what to play.

To find out when we are playing next, check our Meetup group, join and RSVP.

How does it work?

Just show up and say hello - we are usually there at least half an hour before the start time. Get a drink and chat with us about games, or anything!

Near the start time people will start to discuss what to play depending on the number of people and what games people have brought.

Everyone will make sure all players will get into a game, and hopefully something that you want to play.

If you have been left out somehow, then shout and we will fix it!

Let the gamesmaster know if you are totally new to a game and they will do their best to teach.

Some games are harder than others so try something simple at first, but we have some very good teachers who will walk you through even the most complex of games, and you'll probably enjoy it!

We try to keep an eye on all the games going on so we can break at similar times, fit in shorter games and mix up the groups a bit. It doesn't always happen - sometimes a group is stuck on one game for an entire evening, but that's alright too!

I have no idea what I'm doing...

It's okay, neither did we when we started the group!

Club members vary from people totally new to tabletop games, to veterans.

Everyone is friendly and will happily teach you to play their favourite games.

Just don't turn up with a new game you've never played before. Try to learn the rules if you want to try teaching a game to others!

Besides that, just turn up, buy a drink and have fun! If you have any questions just ask. Any of the longstanding group members should be able to help, and if you’re not sure who to talk to, the venue’s staff will most likely be able to direct you to the right person.

Some guidelines for happy gaming

Please RSVP to events on our meetup group, to make sure we have enough space in the venue.

Cancel if you can't make it - it's not a problem but it's good to know so we don't wait for you.

Look after your personal items - we cannot be held responsible for anything going missing as we hold these events in a public place.

Look after the games - we don't want to break them, spill drinks on them or get food on them. So keep your drinks off the table is a good rule of thumb. Make sure that you put the games back as neatly as you can.

Don't bend cards or chew on game bits either ;)

Be gracious in defeat, and patient towards new players.

Be aware of the noise you are making but don't worry about having a bit of fun.

Don't be afraid to say you don't want to play something, and share what you do want to play!

If you are a veteran vs. a newbie, try not to beat them TOO soundly - we want them to ENJOY playing!
