Introduction to Blockchain for Lawyers - CPD Course

Laywers in Perth: How Will Blockchain Technology Impact Your Clients? It’s disrupting, or has the potential to disrupt, a number of industries that rely heavily on lawyers’ counsel and advice. And this disruption will create opportunities for you to help, as industries wrangle with how disruption impacts everything from operations to regulatory and legal structures. We predict these disruptions will create niche practice areas for those lawyers who choose to understand the Blockchain. Emerging Tech education provider TecStack is hosting a new Blockchain Course that has been officially approved by the Legal Practice Board of WA. This introduction course will explain not only what Blockchain is but also the key areas of Blockchain technology that will impact the Legal professional. This short course of two hours has been designed for lawyers, but is applicable to other professionals. The course will cover: - Introduction to Blockchain and cryptocurrencies - Brief overview of National and International Legal Frameworks on Blockchain and cryptocurrencies - Smart Contracts and property issues - Banking/Finance/Tax compliance (e.g money laundering, KYC principles, general tax concepts) - Data Privacy - Consumer Protection This course has been approved by the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia as attracting 2 CPD points. The CPD points are as follows: 1 in Substantive Law, and 1 in Practice Management As part of the course you will receive the following: Course Handbook Glossary of useful terms Statement of Attendance Duration - 2 hours Registration: 5 PM Start: 5.30 PM SPEAKER Chinelle van der Westhuizen is a lecturer in the School of Law at The University of Notre Dame and lectures Contract, Consumer and Banking Law. She completed her LLB and LLM at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa. She completed a further Masters by Research at The University of Notre Dame titled ‘Future Digital Money: The Legal Status and Regulation of Bitcoin in Australia’. She is also currently completing her PhD. Through her research in the area of digital currency regulation and innovative approaches, she was named a finalist in the Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards.
