CryptoTuesday For Social Good is a monthly meetup featuring a speaker or panel comprised of those leveraging blockchain technology to make extraordinary communal advancements in our world. This event is guided towards learning the inspiration behind the project, to learn about the obstacles those behind the project have faced, and the ones they seek to overcome. As a social meetup, following the 30 minute presentation and Q&A, guests are encouraged to connect with one another in an effort to create inspirational dialogue around ideas for future social good advancements in our society - with the help of an open bar.

6:30-7:00 ---- Check in
7:00-7:30 ---- Speaker: Nicole Bode from CIVIL
7:30-9:00 ---- Socialize/Network

Civil is a decentralized marketplace for news. Our mission is journalism: supporting it, distributing it and protecting its ideals. We believe that journalism is in need of a new model. The ad-driven revenue model that traditionally funded quality journalism has simply not translated to the digital economy. Journalism is a fundamental pillar of free, democratic societies, and newsrooms around the world are facing an existential threat like never before. We're committed to introducing a new way forward that enables journalists to focus on journalism, not satisfying the clicks-over-quality mandate from third parties like advertisers and publishers. As part of our mission, we've committed $1 million towards helping dozens of journalists create independent newsrooms whose work will appear on the platform during our launch in Spring 2018. That includes newsrooms that cover the areas hardest hit by the current problems with the industry: local, investigative, policy and international. We recently partnered with the European Journalism Centre and the News Integrity Initiative to allot €450,000 as part of a larger €1.7 million program to give grants to promising European newsrooms that are focused on sustainability and reader engagement. For more information, go to Joincivil.com.

Nicole Bode is responsible for recruiting and supporting first fleet newsrooms on the Civil platform, including helping them thrive and overcome challenges. Nicole has spent the past 17 years as a reporter and editor in New York City, including as a founding member and Managing Editor of DNAinfo, an award-winning news site that served readers in New York and Chicago before its closure in 2017. She also served as DNAinfo's first Data Visualizations Editor, and oversaw breaking news as well as day-to-day newsroom operations. Previously, Nicole spent eight years as a reporter at the New York Daily News, where she covered criminal justice, education and local, national and international breaking news. She holds a B.A. from Columbia and is currently an adjunct journalism professor at the New School's News and Narrative Design program.
