"U. S. Trade Policy in the Western Hemisphere"
ARMCHAIR DISCUSSION with Walter Bastian, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere, U.S. Department of Commerce, Washington D.C.
Monday Talk Moderated by Drew Johnston, President, Walgren Company; Tuesday Talk Moderated by Kendra Kuo, US Department of Commerce
The Western Hemisphere has become a thriving market of nearly a billion people. While many US businesses are fully engaged in business partnerships with companies in Canada, Mexico and Brazil, many other opportunities abound. Over the past decade, the economies of Latin America and the Caribbean grew at a steady rate of rate of 4 percent a year, while trade between the United States and Latin America has nearly tripled. Hear how NAFTA, CAFTA and new trade agreements with Peru and Columbia might affect you and discover new markets for growth in the Western Hemisphere.
Anyone interested in discussing the issues raised and solving the world's problems over a cold libation is welcome to join us after the lecture.
Note: Lectures start at 6 and usually last between an hour and an hour and a half. The cost is $10 per lecture, or $5 if you become a World Affairs Council Member (prices range from $11 to $200). You can get more information at http://www.worldmichigan.org/ .
