- Meetup on Orient Express. Autumn in Paris Venice Prague Vienna Budapest IstanbulArc de Triomphe, Paris
The Orient Express...you have heard it many times. The romance, the mystery, the adventure! Of course with the opulence too!
The original Orient Express is but a memory and our journey will mirror elements of the original route, crossing Europe from Paris to Istanbul.
This trip brings back the romance and adventure of train travel, along with the mystery of new cities and countries in a special way - adding value and removing inflated expense of excessive opulence by replacing it with service and contemporary refinement.
We retrace the route of the original Orient Express, using modern Night Trains, High Speed Day Trains, as well as some short hop flights.
Our route takes us to:
Paris - - - Venice - - - Vienna - - - Prague - - - Budapest - - - IstanbulIncluded:
- Train transportation between 4 cities.
- 2 nights on an actual night train with sleeping compartment
- Air transportation Paris / Venice and Budapest / Istanbul
- 11 nights in First Class hotels with best central locations
- Breakfast every day
- Some lunches/dinners
- All transfers to/from hotels, train stations or airports
- Guided tours in each city
- Entrances to many museums.
- even a wine tasting along the way.
- and more...
We travel as a group, and also have the flexibility of hop-on, hop-off tours and museum passes with "skip the line" so you enjoy a complete independence. It is all included in the price!
You are free to do your own thing, cater to your special interests, visit other sights and locations in the cities, while still being guided and helped with all the arrangements. A balance of independence when you want it and being included in all group activities when you prefer it.The idea is: come alone, meet new like-minded people and make lifelong memories . . . without being stuck with the "one size fits all" tour formula.
Here is a basic thumbnail:
PARIS - 3 nights
· Evening fight to Venice
VENICE - 1 night
· Night Train to Vienna
VIENNA - 1 night
· Evening train to Prague
PRAGUE - 2 nights
· Night Train to Budapest
BUDAPEST - 1 night
· Late evening flight to Istanbul
ISTANBUL - 3 nights.
· Sleeper Cabins on the trains and First Class hotels in each city w/ very central locations. What was The Orient Express?
It was long-distance passenger train service that began in 1883 with the original endpoints being Paris to Istanbul. The original name became synonymous with intrigue and was a showcase of luxury with comfort at a time when traveling was still rough and dangerous. In Istanbul the Pera Palace Hotel, built in 1892, was the accommodations at the terminus. And we are staying in it!
The original Orient Express ceased operation in 1977 and we are not using the original old train. It no longer exists.
EVERY aspect of this trip is epic.
- Visit picturesque and storied cities.
- Enjoy trains and experience the enchantment of the rails.
- In the end you will have visited 6 countries: France, Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary and Turkey!
The tour starts in Paris on Sep 14 and ends in Istanbul on Sep 27.

Live the adventure instead of only dreaming it!
- Mt Whitney (training) Hike to Lone Pine Lake. Whitney for Fun!! Newbie CampingLone Pine Lake, California, CA
Event limited to 12 total.
The Mount Whitney area is a stunning and beautiful place aside from the Summit.
For this event we are heading to Lone Pine Lake. We will head out in the AM and you will see the trail in the light. We will go only as far as Lone Pine Lake.
This is normally a 5 mile round trip. On the way down (so about 4 miles) we will turn and have the option of going up to Lower Boy Scout Lake (about 2 miles up). Then back to camp. This is intended to get you to feel and see the area and there is not the pressure of summiting, or starting at a crazy time of night. Many do not appreciate the start and the lower parts, as they are looking only at the top. Many pass by the stunning-ness of Lone Pine Lake looking only at the top.
We are going on this to either train for summit someday or to take it slow and appreciate the stunning area as it is.
We are also close to visit to The Alabama Hills, Mansanar and Fossil Falls.
The Plan:
- Arrive Fri in the evening. Get there when you can. No set arrival time. The earliest we can be in the campsite is 4PM.
- Sat: Hike Whitney Trail up to Lone Pine Lake. Then optional to Lower Boy Scout Lake.
- Sun has several options:
- Alabama Hills, Ancient Bristlecone Forrest Mansanar, Fossil Falls
This is intended as Whitney for everybody trip. It is also a Camping for first timers.
No matter who you are, . .you can come. We will go slow and easy. Nobody is left behind. This is for fun and community. Not for bragging rights.
Kids are OK. But super young is not ideal. Dogs are fine too.
You do not need a permit to make it up to Lone Pine Lake.
Whitney is a place that is on everybody's bucket list. We are going on this one not to Summit, . . but for fun.
Hence the title: Whitney for Fun!!
Other options
Dogs ok at campsite and on trail. Cats: that's your call.

- ($20 Tickets) 98 DegreesSaban Theatre, Beverly Hills, CA
We have a special price of $20 with No Drink Minimum!!
In five short years — from 1997 to 2002 — 98° sold a staggering 10 million records, scored a chart-topping single, “Thank God I Found You,” with Mariah Carey and Joe, and collaborated with their collective idol, Stevie Wonder, on “True to Your Heart,” for the 1998 animated Disney film, Mulan. Their four-million-selling album, 98° and Rising (1998, Motown), spawned the top-5 favorites “Because of You,” “I Do,” and “The Hardest Thing,” while 2000’s Revelation (Universal Records), which sold two million copies, peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and yielded a trio of hits, “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche),” “My Everything” and “The Way You Want Me To.”
The group emerged at a time when teen-oriented acts such as the Spice Girls, The Backstreet Boys and NSYNC were just hitting the top of the charts around the world. They differentiated themselves from many of the other teen bands at the time as they wrote much of their own material, which reflected their own R&B influences.
By September 10, 2001, the frequent Total Request Live champions had reached the pinnacle of their career. That was the night the male-harmony group, which includes Jeff Timmons, Justin Jeffre and brothers Nick and Drew Lachey, performed in front of a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City as part of the Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration. A star-studded salute marking the icon’s three-decade run as a solo entertainer, it was the kind of achievement that should have taken 98° to the next level.
But not 12 hours later, the 9-11 attacks changed the world forever. At that point, the all-Ohio-raised quartet decided to take a break. Save for a one-off performance on a TV special in 2004, it would be more than a decade before the four friends in 98° would sing together again.
The group tested the waters with a one-time appearance at the Mixtape Festival in Hershey, Penn. Then, in 2013, they hit the road with New Kids On the Block and Boyz II Men, the latter being their inspiration and a group that figures prominently in their origin story.Encouraged by the rapturous fan reaction, the group headlined their own, 38-city trek in the summer of 2016. The My2K tour, which also included O-Town, Dream and Ryan Cabrera, played to sell-out or near-capacity crowds at venues like the prestigious Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and the 5000-seat Coney Island Amphitheater in New York City.
Last year, the quartet released their first full-length Christmas album in 18 years, Let It Snow, via UMe to glowing reviews from both fans and critics alike. The album featured the group’s signature R&B-tinged, four-part harmonies and was a natural follow up to their 1999 multi-platinum selling This Christmas. The band embarked on a highly successful 31-city tour across the U.S. in support of their Christmas album in addition to their performances on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Disney’s Magic Holiday Celebration, Good Morning America, Today Show, Kelly & Ryan and more.
Over the past 15 years, all four members have enjoyed other careers outside of music. Nick, who was recently on Season 25 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, and launched a successful solo music career and has starred on TV shows both as an actor (The WB’s Charmed and One Tree Hill) and as a television host (VH-1’s Big Morning Buzz Live, NBC’s The Sing-Off). Drew was crowned season two winner of Dancing with the Stars, been on Broadway, and both brothers opened Lachey’s Bar (A&E). Timmons joined members of Backstreet Boys and ‘NSYNC for VH-1’s Mission Man Band and Nick Carter’s Sci-Fi feature, Dead Seven. Jeffre is involved in various media and cause related projects stemming from his foray into politics as a mayoral candidate of Cincinnati.

For those not aware I do have classical art training, as well as years of working within the art industry with curators, conservators, collectors, artists, museums, studios, institutions etc. So we will make this all very worthwhile.
Now some background . . . Before the pandemic we did plenty of Artsy, and Artsy Adjacent events (no need to bore you with those now).
With the pandemic we did move to online and to doing a Weekly Art Soiree Zoom. We would try and alternate weeks between a "place" (like a museum) and a "concept", "movement" or artist.
As things lessened we did change that to once every two weeks.
Here are the changes we are making for the new year. We will switch to Once A Month . . . BUT we will make it 1 1/2 hrs on a Place, and the other 1 1/2 hr on Concept, Movement or Artist

- FREE CAMPING for Big Pine Lakes. Volunteering Event!!! Tues OR Thurs ArrivalBig Pine Creek, California, CA
This event is a strange one. It can only happen if the weather is in our favor.

FREE CAMPING for VOLUNTEERING w/ breakfast, lunch and dinner on FRI included.
This is a different kind of event.
It's a fair trade. You get to camp at a fab site right at the trail-head to the Big Pine Lakes. The trade is that on Fri you put in some good volunteering. And in exchange you get some free food, some exercise, some community, AND you get to do some good
Here are the details. You will get free camping in return for putting in eight hours of volunteering on Friday. Friday/Volunteer Day will also include breakfast, lunch and BBQ dinner.
Want to go? You need to fill out the form

Fri Volunteer Work Day
Sat : Hike Day, Play Day, Fun Day
Sun : Pack up and head homeThe Breakfast/Lunch/BBQ Dinner Is provided ONLY Friday Volunteer Day
WAIT . . . . I forgot to ask . . . What kind of work is this? What do I need to bring for it?
The camp is vintage. Painting . . . Moving some smaller rocks and re-building some smaller rock walls. There be a little bit of moving some gravel to fill some road holes.
Pretty much . . . the kind of stuff that many hands make light work.Bring with you some leather work gloves. If you have a wagon that don't mind getting some use . . . bring that too. A dust mask is nice to keep from sandy dust that gets kicked up. But then again . . .at the moment many of us have many masks on hand.
