New Forest Weekday Evening Wander

Needs a location

Now the evenings are getting lighter... how about a weekday evening wander in the new forest to stretch your legs after a long day of work? An opportunity to see some ponies or if we are lucky Roe deer? And as always meet up with old and new friends?

This outstanding circular walk (sound familiar... the book is back! :D) is approximately 5 miles, so expect about 2 hours of walking, along gravel tracks through inclosures and a mixed woodland of oak, birch, beech and conifers. This should be a fairly relaxed and easy walk with an opportunity for a potential drink at one of the pubs in the village should we fancy after.

Start and end point will be Tilery Road Car Park which is up the gravel path, just behind the Balmer Lawn Hotel in Brockenhurst. The walk will start at 18:15 sharp to ensure we get the most of the evening light.

The spaces will be limited so we can all get a chance to meet each other, so as always, please do actively manage your RSVP if you can not attend for any reason and wear comfortable shoes.

Hope to see you there!

Bike ride, pub tour (Weather looking fantastic)

Needs a location

We will head out to cover 5x pubs between the train stations in Southampton and Lymington. Then catch a train back via brockenhurst

  1. The Anchor Inn - Eling
  2. The Bold forester
  3. The turf cutters arms
  4. East End Arms, east end
  5. the ferryman, lymington

Consume alcohol at your own risk, this is an opportunity to explore some really excellent and historic pubs in the new forest.

There will be no rushing and each pub is 3 -4 miles away so this is doable by all.

Meet at Southampton station for a 1045 departure.

All of these pubs serve food so we can eat along the way. If we did this route without stops it’s 1.5 hours. Iv allowed so long to make sure it’s a nice relaxed day

June book: The Driver's Seat, by Muriel Spark

Do you like books? Do you like monkeys?* Then come talk about books with us!

*This part isn't actually necessary. But who doesn't??

We meet on (usually) the first Thursday of each month at 7pm (this month is an exception, to avoid the bank holiday) at Maritimo Lounge in Ocean Village, Southampton.

Each month we will semi-randomly pick a book from a list provided by...you! We'll vote for the next month's book at the end of each meeting. If you'd like to suggest books we might like to read, head to our very own Curious BookMonkeyz web page at THIS HERE LINK:

https://bookclubz.com/clubs/22340/join/a9a202/

You need to join the book club (it's free and they don't send you loads of spam, so don't worry), then once you're in you'll see the 'Books We Want To Read' link over on the left. Click on that, and commence recommending! Books you love, books you suspect you might love but haven't yet read, books you hate with a fiery passion so strong you wanna rant about it to a group - whatever! Just a couple of teeny rules: Try not to pick suuuper long books and make sure you're picking single books, not a whole trilogy/series (though the first book of a series is fine). I'm sorry to be militant but I'll probably remove anything much above 400 pages - we've tried and we just can't get them read in a month!

Small but important note: All views are valid. People are allowed to like or dislike any book. So...bear that in mind when you suggest books. For example, if you wanna suggest your great-grandmother's autobiography, go for it! Yay! We love your great-grandma! BUT...we might not love her book. And that's OK! It's nothing personal. Just maybe think twice about suggesting a book if it would break your heart to hear people say not-delighted things about it.

So, yeah. Tell us you're coming, join the page, recommend books, and happy reading!
