What we're about

Charlottesville Atheists and Secular Humanists (CASH) is a chapter of Washington Area Secular Humanists. Become a member (http://wash.org/join/) to support our activities!

CASH is dedicated to promoting positive atheism and establishing a thriving secular humanist community.

It is our hope that this community provides you a safe place to be with other like-minded people. We value diversity, and welcome people from all backgrounds to join our growing community! The general rule of conduct is friendly interactions without harassment. For a more complete description, please follow this link: http://wash.org/conduct/

Mission Statement: Charlottesville Atheists and Secular Humanists (CASH) is a group of non-religious people: secular, humanist, agnostic and atheist, and more. Our mission is to advance our local community through rational thought and expanding knowledge. We aim to provide a safe space for non-religious people to come together to support each other, find common interests, friendship, and work together to make the world a better place for everyone.

We have several events planned for 2019 already, but please let us know what else you'd like to see happen. Our focus is not necessarily on discussing atheism, but rather on building friendships and community.

This group is set to Private, which means that interested members have limited access to this Meetup's content before they join. Non-members cannot see Meetup event descriptions and locations, member lists and group profiles, attendees, photos or other shared content. Some information is always public, so that everyone can make informed decisions about their participation in a Meetup.

Public information includes:
Basic group information: group name, main photo, description, number of members, group reviews, date founded;
Basic organizer details: organizer name and profile photo;
Basic event details: titles, date, time, and number of RSVPs

Please join our Facebook page for more conversations and information! This is a secret group, so you'll need to add Silvia Park as a friend to be added. https://www.facebook.com/groups/AtheistCommunityofCville/ (https://www.facebook.com/groups/AtheistCommunityofCville/about/)

We are a Chapter of the Washington Area Secular Humanists (WASH). The Washington Area Secular Humanists (WASH) was incorporated in 1989 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational organization in Maryland. Our purpose is to promote scientific literacy and critical thinking, to provide a forum for humanists and others to explore humanist principles and how they relate to all aspects of human experience, and to study the significance of humanism throughout history. Secular humanists are distinguished by an emphasis on scientific methods of knowing, separation of church and state, and a commitment to the pursuit of humanist goals outside religious frameworks. WASH sponsors ten local chapters for the promotion of Secular Humanist activities within specific communities. http://wash.org/acc/ (http://www.wash.org)

WASH is a Chapter of the American Humanist Association http://www.americanhumanists.org

We are an affiliate of American Atheists, Inc https://www.atheists.org From the website: "We collaborate with local affiliates that want to participate in our civil rights campaigns or need assistance on local issues. We provide organizational and leadership support to local affiliates and, of course, we look to our local affiliates to keep us informed of emerging local civil rights issues so that we can meet the challenge. We expect affiliates to support the complete and absolute separation of religion and government and to support activism in support of the “wall of separation.” However, American Atheists and affiliates are not required to agree with every position or support every action taken by the other."
