What we're about

If you want to get out and about and improve your social life join us, you will get a warm welcome. This group is open to all over 18s. Sorry no children on any of our events.

The only requirement for membership is that you are over 18, looking to the future and want to make new friends.

You don’t have to live in the Cynon Valley to join but initially many of our events will be in this area, or close to it.

I ran a sucessful Meetup group before I moved to Wales, so I'll be using that experience to make this a vibrant and friendly group.

A few notes, both for your benefit and mine

Charges : I have to pay a subscription to meet up in the USA to run this site its currently about £200 per annum I will be asking people that attend any events to make a donation towards these costs. There will be a note in the write up for each event with a suggested amount , usually £1 or 50p.

Walks : I give a guide on the difficulty of the walk, but it is entirely your responsibility to make sure you are physical fit enough, and you have suitable clothing. I only suggest the route its your responsibilty to make sure you don't trip , fall or suffer any other mishap.

Dogs: Some walks are suitable for dogs , but you must ask first. Dogs must be well behaved and sociable both with people and other dogs and you must follow the Walk Leaders directions when asked to put the dog on a lead.

Dare Valley Country park to Castle Nos

Needs a location

From Dare Valley Country park we walk uphill as we ascend there are good views of the Upper Cynon Valley. Its then throught the forest to Castle Nos , we then loop round and drop down towards Aberaman its another climb upto the Craig and having finished climbed its now quite a steep descent to the old railway which takes us back to the country park.

This is a 7.5 mile walk and does have a couple of climbs - if you are not used to walking this is probably not the walk for you. I walk at moderate pace ,its not a race , and will stiop frequently to admire the scenery and let everyone catch up.. There will be a lunch stop somewhere on the hill so please bring lunch with you.

This group does cost me money to run , I have to pay to Meetup to have this group. So a donation towards those costs would be appreciated £1 from everyone should be enough to cover my costs.

Three Cliffs Bay - Walk

Needs a location

This is one of my all time favourite walks. Its on the Gower and starts in the hamlet of Penmaen .
I've chosen this date because there will be a very low tide meaning the whole of this massive beach, with its golden sand, will be available to walk on and also we can walk round Great Tor to Oxwich Bay. .
We will walk from Penmaen and round at high level to Pennard Castle, where we get superb views of the bay, then staying at high level we will make our way to the path down to Pobbles Beach , then its across the beach to the huge rock , that you can walk through , that give Three Cliffs Bay its name. Then we cross the river to walk round Great Tor into Oxwich bay. We leave the beach here and its a bit of climb up the sand dune until we get to path at the top where we take the track back to Penmaen. We will have lunch on the beach so bring some food and something to sit on.

In all the walk is around 4/5 miles. I'm planning to walk across the river is not deep , usually ankle/ calf depth , so its best to take your boots/shoes off and enjoy the cool water. Suggest you bring a small towel to dry your feet after.

Full deatails of where to park and how to recognise me will be sent to those that book.
