Upcoming events (5+)
This will be a pierogi making cooking class. Please bring your own rolling pin and apron. It does tend to get a bit messy. Recipes will be distributed so you can make them at home. There will be a $5 dollar charge for the ingredients. We will also be having smoked kielbasa and sauerkraut for dinner. BYOB if you want an adult beverage. I will have some pop and ice on hand. Please make sure that you have attended at least 2 of our meet ups before you sign in. It will be a fun class and you won't go home hungry. Annette😊 *PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A VEGETARIAN MEAL OR GLUTEN FREE.
We are continuing our walks at the beautiful Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve. There is a 1.7 mile paved trail around the lake. Parts are in the sun and parts are in the shade and there are even a couple of benches along the way if you want to take a break. Since it's a loop, you can walk as many times around as work for you. Also, the entrance is on the right almost immediately after you turn off the 249 feeder, so be aware. ;-) There is no fee to enter or park.
While Goforth Park has been a great venue for our Sunday walks and will be again, the summer heat whispers that it's time for a place with a little SHADE. So this month, we're moving our walk a few miles up Barker Cypress to the Coles Crossing Nature Path. The path surrounding and permeating the neighborhood of Coles Crossing is frequented by other walkers, joggers, bike-riders, and dog-walkers... most all a friendly and courteous bunch who will say "Good morning" as they pass. There's no large lake / retention pond as with Goforth Park, but there are creeks, bayous, lowlands, and bridges along with a few beautiful fountains and water features. The best part is the natural setting and plentiful shaded areas we'll pass through. There are even a few benches to stop for a breather along the way. The community center off Barker Cypress, where many people tend to assume is the best place to park, is actually private, for residents of Coles Crossing only. So, we will park at Sampson Elementary School and walk from there. As always, some of us will be heading for breakfast afterwards. Just say the word if you want to come along!
