Data Virtualization is a concept that has been around for a while but remains misunderstood. Recent technology improvements have expanded the realities of some of data virtualizations early promises.
In this presentation, we will introduce some of the key capabilities of data virtualization and how parts of Principal have started to apply this approach to improve the agility of our data.
Tom Clingan is a Tech Lead in the HR IT team at Principal Financial Group. He has been in this role for the past year of his 3 ½ year Principal Financial Group employment.
He spends most of his time working on data-related topics including architecture, protection and privacy, and access. The team handles employee and contingent worker data for our global operations using cloud and on-premise applications.
Data Virtualization (DV) plays a central role in the team’s Data Integration and BI strategies. Tom has been working with DV for 3 years and is a proponent of the technology and its enablement of flexible solutions that can be delivered quickly to add significant business value.
Jan Hook is an IT Senior Architect at Principal. She has held various positions within IT over the last 20 years as a developer, data modeler, team and project lead. She is currently part of the Engineering Optimization team at PFG which enables other IT teams to deliver business value, optimize processes, and utilize newer technology frameworks. Jan graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.S. degree in Management Information Systems.
Kurt Sundermann is Assistant Director - Analytics Strategy at Principal. Kurt has over 30 years of experience working with data projects, particularly data warehousing implementation and architecture. Kurt has a Master’s of Business Analytics from Iowa State University and is an adjunct instructor at Drake University.
