Crafting Your Cloud Native Strategy - beyond "survival is not mandatory"

The term "cloud native" is now bandied about like it’s a known thing. Some have even suggested that it’s the successor to DevOps. This talk goes over exactly what "cloud native" means and why your organization should be interested in it. It should give you enough to get started with understanding what a useful "cloud strategy" is, how to start planning for it, and the confidence to know it’s possible, even if you’re not a "unicorn."

Topics include shifting your process think to small batch approach; how to organize teams in your IT department; management challenges; building a pipeline; dealing with legacy, auditors, and security; re-orienting outsourcing; finance and ROI; cloud platforms; and many
other best and worst practices that actual companies have gone through as they work towards the benefits of being cloud native. Use cases dray from the US government, large financial institutions, retailers, and many other real, actual companies.

This talk is based on Coté's booklet "Crafting your cloud native strategy" (https://content.pivotal.io/ebooks/crafting-your-cloud-native-strategy).

Why this talk is helpful

Most teams and management I speak with have many, many questions about getting started. They want tips and tricks, and "war stories," from other organizations like them that have tried, failed, and succeeded. This talk angles to sate that hunger.

Michael Coté (just call him Coté) works at Pivotal, and has worked as an analyst at 451 Research and RedMonk, on strategy and M&A at Dell, and as a developer before that. He hosts several podcasts and can be seen me out and about speaking at conferences. See more at http://cote.io/about
