DC Digital Analytics - December 2018 Meetup
DC Digital Analytics brings together digital analytics professionals for an evening of talks and discussions specific to our industry. This time, our meetup will specifically focus on data science. Join us for drinks, food, and data! TIMELINE: 6:30 - 7:00 Socializing 7:00 - 8:30 Talks TALK 1 - "Accelerating Cybersecurity Applications with RAPIDS" by Bartley Richardson, Senior AI Researcher / Senior Data Scientist (AI Infrastructure) at NVIDIA Network data continues to increase both in terms of volume and velocity. Current methodologies that address cybersecurity concerns focus on heuristic-based approaches (signatures) and use massive CPU scale out. This talk illustrates how we can move away from signature-based anomaly detection while increasing the speed of analytic results using a GPU platform and the open-source RAPIDS ecosystem. TALK 2 - "Data Ethics" by Ritika Bhasker, Senior Data Scientist at DevResults We’re slowly beginning to talk about the effects of the work we do as data scientists (and it’s about time!). This talk will focus on how best to incorporate data ethics considerations throughout the data science workflow. TALK 3 - "Multilingual Text Classification with Multitask Neural Networks" by Ben Radford, Chief Scientist, LevelUp Research LLC Researchers typically analyze texts from multilingual corpora individually by language or by translating all texts into a single common language. This is costly and unrealistic in scenarios where machine translation services are not an option. We introduce a zero-shot transfer learning model, 0-BlinC, that utilizes cross-lingual information to facilitate seamless text classification in language B even when training data are only available in language A. In this talk, we provide an introduction to word embedding (i.e. word2vec) and use this to motivate our work on multilingual language modeling and classification.' THE HOST Viget is a full-service interactive agency that helps plan, design, build, and market successful digital and hardware products. Founded in 1999, the company includes 67 people across the Washington DC Metro area, Colorado, and North Carolina. PARKING There is a free parking deck behind the building that can be accessed off of S. Maple Ave, West Broad Street (Route 7), or South Washington Street (Route 29/Lee Hwy). Guests can park in any non-reserved spot. Please be mindful of the reserved restaurant parking during certain hours. There are some covered spots available as well. METRO / PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION The closest metro is East Falls Church on the Orange/Silver line. Viget is located 1 mile from the metro with sidewalks along the whole way. Bus lines 2A and 3A also run from the metro to Viget's office. Cabs and Ubers are also available from the metro. The following bus routes stop right by Viget. • 2A (Arlington/Merrifield) • 3A (Annandale/Falls Church) • 28A (Tysons/Alexandria)
