Describe your backpacking experience and background, please include longest mileage in a day (with pack) and coldest nights out.

I have been backpacking seriously again after a hiatus in my 20s. Scouting introduced me to backpacking. I have done weeklong or longer trips to the Grand Canyon, the Sierras, Philmont (a long time ago), and the West Coast Trail. I also maintain the Wilderness First Responder Certification. The longest mileage I have done in a day is 31 miles thanks to a slight detour on the Wild Oak Trail. Coldest night was in the 16 degrees in 2015.

Describe your most recent outdoor adventure. When was it? How did you set it up? Did the weather cooperate? How did it go?

In 2015, I did a 86 mile 8 night trip that crossed the Sierras including summiting Mount Whitney.

The Big Three: what specific gear (not just brands) do you use for your three-season shelter system, sleep system, and backpack? (It's okay if it isn't ultralight!)

My MYOG tarp, MLD bivy, Thermarest Xlite, Katabatic Designs Palisade down quilt, ULA Circuit or MLD Exodus (depending on trip).

Help us understand your reason for joining DC UL Backpacking, including your goals for lightening your load and quickening your backpacking pace.

I am looking for like minded people to hike with and learn from. To hike faster. I have the longer down now :)

How did you learn about our group? (I'm trying to improve our visibility, so I'm curious.)

From Midatlantic Backpacker Meetup Group and Andrew Seegers.

Introduction

Put me on a trail in the mountains, and I am happy.
