Describe your backpacking experience and background, please include longest mileage in a day (with pack) and coldest nights out.

Backpacking since 2005, lightweight backpacker since 2010. I've just crossed the 1000 trail mile threshold since joining this group, and am hoping to continue tackling long trails now that I've successfully completed the Kungsleden! My coldest night was six degrees in the Massanuttens, but the worst night was being on Three Ridges in 20 degree weather with my 40 degree bag.

Describe your most recent outdoor adventure. When was it? How did you set it up? Did the weather cooperate? How did it go?

The Big Three: what specific gear (not just brands) do you use for your three-season shelter system, sleep system, and backpack? (It's okay if it isn't ultralight!)

I'm currently using a Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo tent, and have a GoLite 40 degree quilt and a WM 15 degree bag for sleeping. The ULA Catalyst is my primary pack these days, although the GoLite Jam pack was what got me started down the UL path!

Help us understand your reason for joining DC UL Backpacking, including your goals for lightening your load and quickening your backpacking pace.

'The farther one gets into the wilderness, the greater is the attraction of its lonely freedom.' -Theodore Roosevelt

How did you learn about our group? (I'm trying to improve our visibility, so I'm curious.)

What MikeVW is saying about this Meetup Group

This group will challenge your conception of what backpacking is, and push you in ways you're not always prepared for. Great for people looking to go beyond the casual weekend outing!
