Describe your backpacking experience and background, please include longest mileage in a day (with pack) and coldest nights out.

Nepal (colder than a witch's you-know-what at altitude), Mt. Whitney (once as a day hike and once as a backpack), etc. Longest mileage with pack is 20+ miles. Coldest night out was -11, Mt. Marcy last year. I introduced David Schrock to backpacking and I know he's been out with you. I've done many trips with Darwin (including Devil's Path), but not as a backpacking trip. I did Marcy, et al, with Brandon and he has invited me to go on this trip. I try to go light, but I do not go UL and that's why I haven't joined up with you before.

Describe your most recent outdoor adventure. When was it? How did you set it up? Did the weather cooperate? How did it go?

My last outdoor adventure (tho' I view most everyday as an outdoor adventure) was a hilly metric ride on Saturday. Weather was perfect in AM (chilly) and hot, sticky in afternoon. How did it go: well, I'm here to tell the story :). Planning on doing an informal HAM oh-dark-hundred Saturday.

The Big Three: what specific gear (not just brands) do you use for your three-season shelter system, sleep system, and backpack? (It's okay if it isn't ultralight!)

I have different gear depending on what I'm doing and the weather. Sometimes a bivy works, other times I use REI's one person tent (which is rated 3 season, but works for 4). I use a 30 degree sleeping bag for spring, fall. I also have a negative 5 degree bag and in the COLD, I use both and one or two sleeping pads so NOT UL, but I certainly take weight into account.

Help us understand your reason for joining DC UL Backpacking, including your goals for lightening your load and quickening your backpacking pace.

I want to balance pace with reasonable accommodations. I am by no means hight maintenance, but I do carry some gear.

How did you learn about our group? (I'm trying to improve our visibility, so I'm curious.)
