Visit George Washington’s Mount Vernon for FREE on President’s Day (Save $20)
Details
Greetings, here is an update on the FREE admission event at George Washington’s Mount Vernon (a $20 savings). We hope you can join us for this fun, educational and entertaining President’s Day experience.
Weather Forecast: 39 degrees at 9:00, later getting up to the high 40’s.
Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Meeting Point: Your host Robert Kelleman (brown coat and cap with a cream color scarf) will be outside the main entrance to Mount Vernon starting at 8:30 until they open the gates at 9:00. After 9:00 we’ll be following the suggested itineraries below and you are welcome to join us for that or venture off on your own. Throughout the day look for people with “Meetup” stickers, which we’ll hand out.
Arrival & Departure: Feel free to arrive and/or depart whenever you like.
Mansion Tours: Timed tickets for Mansion tours will be distributed upon entry - usually handed out by staff members - get these soon as you can.
Suggested Itinerary from 9:00 - 11:00: Tour the Mansion, gardens, outbuildings, etc. FYI my favorite part of Mount Vernon is in the back of the mansion - the stunning view of the Potomac River – so be sure and see that.
Suggested Itinerary from 11:00 -12:00/1:00: Special Military Demonstration on the Bowling Green and/or Character Performances in the Upper Garden.
Visitor Center: Some excellent exhibits and a must see. However, I recommend skipping this when you first arrive to avoid the masses and returning later in the day because it’s more likely to be crowded in the morning than in the afternoon.
Food: Available in the cafe.
Gift Shops: Lots of cool stuff for sale.
Tickets: Not needed - just show up and you’ll be let in. All are welcome to attend including children.
Parking: Free
Public Transportation: Please see event link.
Additional Questions: Please see the event link, and/or use Google, common sense.
