Following their easy win at "Ti Lascio una canzone" competition they were spotted by Tony Renis, Italian writer/ producer for Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion who first thought the teens were faking it. Amazed, Renis introduced them to Geffen Records chairman Ron Fair, who within minutes of hearing their video clip on YouTube committed to signing them for their debut album, which was released by Universal Music Group in November 2010 in Italy. Within months this album, IL VOLO (both the name of the group and the album) went platinum in Italy without airplay or promotion, boosted solely by the overwhelming popular response to the trio's appearance on three Italian television specials.

The trio unveiled its self-titled debut - a mix of reimagined classics and original material - in November 2010 on Geffen Records. The effort debuted at No. 10 on The Billboard 200 and at No. 1 on the magazine's Classical Albums chart selling 23,000 copies in its first week. Geffen Records has also signed the Italian trio onto Lady Gaga's label Interscope and has just released their album in May 2011 in the U.S., where it almost immediately became a best seller on Amazon and heading toward platinum status.

ITALIAN TEEN TRIO "IL VOLO" HITTING IT BIG IN U.S.
On "AMERICAN IDOL" Thursday night, a trio of teens from Italy brought the house down. "IL VOLO" got a standing ovation -- even from the judges! They're hugely popular overseas, where they're known for their incredible voices, and just now breaking out in the U.S. Their self-titled debut album has gone platinum overseas, and was just released in the U.S.
The teens were actually individual contestants on the May 2009 Italian talent show "Ti Lascio una canzone" (I am leaving you a song). One week, the producers thought it would be great to have all three boys sing "O Sole Mio" together on the show. And Il Volo was born! The name means flight. It was chosen to signify the feeling that these three young tenors were about to spread their wings and fly.
They recorded their album in Los Angeles and Rome, as well as at London's famed Abbey Road Studios with veteran producer Humberto Gatica. In February 2010, legendary producer Quincy Jones invited the boys to represent Italy by singing on the charity single "We Are The World: 25 for Haiti." And they impressed such superstars as Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, and Josh Groban during the recording session. The 12 tracks on Il Volo's CD's include both classics and new compositions.
