Boro (Japanese: are classes of textiles that have been mended or patched together. The term is derived from Japanese boroboro, meaning something tattered or repaired.

Boro means, literally, “tatters.” These were made by repurposing carefully saved garment pieces and other handspun and indigo-dyed fabrics. These were sewn together as a patchwork built up from many layers providing extra warmth.

In this workshop participants will begin by creating a Boro Sampler to learn the stitching, patching and mending vocabulary of Boro. Once the language is learned participants will work on fiber art pieces that may be in book form, wall art, 3-D, or wearable creations. Patches can be sewn onto Jean Jackets and Jeans. This workshop is appropriate for beginners wanting to learn stitching and surface techniques or experienced artists and makers wanting to incorporate a new aesthetic into their work.
