Aquaponics I and II: Free course includes basic understanding of why it works, the build steps, parts list, back-up literature, DIY hands-on construct system utilizing a simple rain barrel. We can take it apart and rebuild to give everyone a chance. Experienced instructor Bob Jordan will teach us:

  1. Overview of how an Aquaponic system works
    a. Elements of an Aquaponics system
    b. How the plumbing works
    c. What media to use and why
    d. What plants are recommended
    e. What is the Nitrogen (Start-up Cycle), why do I care, and how do I do it?
    f. Testing: Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Temperature, and pH.
    g. Water conditioning

  2. Simple Step-by-Step Instructions & Hands-on Practice for a one barrel system
    a. The parts used to build the system
    b. Where to cut the barrel and how to assemble it
    c. Where to drill the holes for drain, water inlet, pump power cord, & Fish Tank access Oval hole
    d. Plumbing overview includes drain/overflow installation and assembly, pump/water inlet installation & connection, bulkhead substitutes and tricks
    e. Final Assembly

Show-And-Tell
We have operational One Barrel Aquaponics system that you can inspect. My personal system has been growing herbs for 60 days. Also we will have all the parts to assemble another system, so you can see the parts before and after assembly. We can take this system apart and reassemble it until all are confident they can build one at home.

Prerequisite

Attendace at his course will also serve as a prerequiste to the Keller Aquaponics II class on June 4.
