• Education Evolution

    Online event

***RSVP FOR ZOOM MEETING INFO*** For the first time, it has been required for the educational experience to move partially and fully into the digital realm. Teachers, students, and entire academic institutions are required by local, and state governments to isolate to prevent the spread of the Covid19 virus. During a time of socioeconomic crisis, many of our students are challenged in accessing the technological tools such as computing devices and internet connectivity, as well as quality educational programming. Creating an inequity between those who have access to high performance computing, network connectivity, and educational programming, and those who do not. The digital divide will be exasperated by quarantine. As the new school year has just begun, teachers, students, and academic institutions fumble with the “digitization of the classroom environment”. Student engagement is low, “zoom fatigue” and burnout is evident early across the board. In times where educators are in high demand, even more are resigning from their roles, due to the increasingly strenuous working conditions. The quality of our education is at stake! These problems mark opportunities for entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions to address the educational needs of those on the “dark side” of the digital divide and for those that fall below the technology learning curve. How can we connect to create new products, services, and partnerships to maintain quality education for our students going forward? How can we support teachers and their organizations in their practices as educators? What direction will the trajectory of education take in the very near future? Luckily, within the Detroit ecosystem, entrepreneurs are taking up the cause to design solutions to these problems. Join DNewTech on Wednesday, October 7th to get the pitch from Detroit’s own entrepreneurs who have picked up this very endeavor! The virtual meetup will include networking opportunities, pitch presentations, panel discussion, and community conversation! Stay tuned for updates coming soon!!! He moved to Detroit for the opportunity to work with Rock Ventures (the holding company for businessman Dan Gilbert’s portfolio of companies, investments, and real estate), where he helped local entrepreneurs start, grow, and scale their businesses. He realized how important it was to provide startups throughout the city access to founder-friendly capital, which led him to launch the first ever Detroit Demo Day. In just three years, Detroit Demo Day has provided nearly $4 million in funding to small businesses throughout the city; the majority of which have been minority and woman-owned. Prior to moving to Detroit, he ran a workspace in his hometown Chattanooga from 6pm – midnight for side-hustlers that work full-time during the day. 2) Ashley Williams - Founder&CEO of RIZZARR https://rizzarr.com/ Ashley Williams is the leading Millennial and Gen Z content marketing strategist, spokesperson, consultant, and global speaker for brands that want to reach younger generations — helping brands to create the right content, craft the right messages, and produce experiences that bring them, Millennials, and Gen Z together. Passionate about empowering the youth regarding service & joining service organizations at an earlier age. Skilled in Management, Customer Service, Strategic Planning, Sales, and Public Speaking. We will then have a panel discussion with our entrepreneurs about the role of social impact in start up culture: Motivation: Entrepreneurs and startups encounter many challenges as they work to transform ideas to action, traction and growth. In the past several months we have encountered a global pandemic forcing us to quarantine in place and now in recent weeks with the deaths of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd, the global body politic is rising up against racial injustice in a variety of ways. Many social justice warriors have been organizing and attending protests to engage the deep-rooted systematic issues that allow racial inequity and deaths of people of color in the United States and abroad. Yet protest for a more just society takes many forms. In these revolutionary times, how will the culture of entrepreneurship shift to align with the solidarity movement? What is the role of startups in creating an equitable and just society?
