The Easter Wiener! And a few Spring events...

Hippity Hoppity, Wiggily Waddily the Easter Wiener is on her way!!!!

Share your fun "Easter Wiener" pix on the Dachshunds Anonymous facebook page!  I'll post them as you share!

It's that time of year again wiener lovers!  Time for the Easter Wiener to come and leave treats and toys for all the good little wiener girls and boys!

Yummy treats!

I don't know if you all include your dogs in your Easter celebration, but we no longer have kids at our house so we fill the plastic eggs with dog treats and "hide" them around the house for the pups to find.  You have to start out kind of obvious, and leave them kind of out in the open.  Show them there's a treat inside so they will really be interested.  But as they get the hang of it, you can start putting them behind the couch, chairs, pillows, etc.

Snoopy finds one behind the TV stand!

Then they have to figure out how to open those eggs....  Seems our boys have it down to a science.  They kind of do a one paw slap thing and pop that egg right open.  One second and they are on to the next.

Our friend Charlie opened a few!

Sadly, the girls have a bit more trouble.  They try to open the eggs with their mouths.  Both have tiny mouths (unlike the boys' big mouths!) and each time they try to bite down, the egg squirts out of their mouth and across the room!  Then they start getting mad at that egg and end up batting it around impatiently!  Poor babies!

The blind dog Beanie found an egg!  (OK, we helped him!)  Snoopy is trying to get his nose in there to "help" Beanie, too!

We have a great time watching them and load up the eggs with treats several times to hide them around the room.  The dogs just love it.  (And so do we!!!)

****If you have children and are doing an Easter egg hunt, please remember that chocolate is poison to dogs. Keep the pooches out of the Easter egg hunt area until all the candy is found. It is best to know how many plastic eggs are "hidden" so you can count and make sure all are collected.

Keep Easter baskets up and out of reach of the pups at all times because even though chocolate is deadly, they absolutely love it and will eat as much as they can (wrapper and all!)  You really don't want to have to make a trip to the Emergency Vet on Easter Sunday!

PS  Look at this gorgeous little brindle girl!!!  I didn't include her on the last email as I wasn't sure if Kathy was still fostering her.  Kathy brought her to the meet-up on Saturday.  Carly is a petite little sweetheart!  She has a beautiful brindle coat (which is fairly unusual for dachshunds).  Carly is the ready made pet, potty trained, leash trained, kennel trained, great manners, and such a little snuggle bug!  If you're looking to add to the family, this little 5 yr old NDR foster is a good choice!
