Colon Cleanse? Detox?

From: Ellery C.

I posted this on my facebook today, but thought I would share with you all as actually this is not an uncommon view and it is rooted in some intuitive yet misguided thinking.

Dear facebook friends:

The idea of "cleaning your colon" to "detoxify" yourself through using a laxative or any such product for this intended purpose is, as far as we know through medical science, pointless.

A laxative should only be necessary in the case of constipation.

If your bowels are running normal, there is no need to "flush out the system" despite hearing this claim often by mouth and perhaps in some media/print sources.

Your GI system is not highly analagous to the basic crude mechanics of your vehicle that indeed may benefit from intermittant treatments as such.

That is all.
