Essentials - Speeding up R Workshop: Tricks, Hacks and need to know Methods

Details

Have you ever faced long run times in R? Or wanted to speed-up your R functions?

One of the main stumbling blocks when using R for the advanced (and not so advanced) programmer can be speed when manipulating large data sets or running computationally demanding tasks. This workshop is a primer on best coding practices, statistical methods and parallelization paradigms to speed up R.

==== WE'LL BRIEFLY GO OVER ====

  1. How data is processed and stored in memory
  2. Vectorization
  3. Statistical hacks (and need to knows)
  4. The Cpp package
  5. Easy Parallelization
  6. (Time permitting) Compilation / Hacking R's internal structure / Scaling through an Amazon Web Server

==== WHAT YOU'LL NEED ====

  1. Laptop with R and RStudio installed
  2. Installed packages (coming soon)

==== NOTE ====

  • Seats for this workshop are limited so availability is on a first come basis.
  • Participants who register but do not attend risk being removed from the listserve.
