Data Engineering Melbourne Meetup - September 2019

Details

Let's do some more data engineering talks, networking and knowledge sharing!

Speaker 1: Mat Kelcey

Title: Data engineering concerns for machine learning products

Abstract: Machine learning products put unique requirements on data platforms. In this talk we'll give an overview of realistic machine learning systems with a focus on the data engineering aspects that enable them to get to production, and stay there.

About Mat:

Mat Kelcey is a machine learning domain specialist at ThoughtWorks. He has worked in data engineering roles at AWS and Google, and has most recently been focussed on applied research engineering.

Speaker 2: Mourina Das

Abstract: Every organisation wants clean data. But what are we discarding in pursuit of quality ? Could there be an important story hidden in this data garbage?
For this session I would discuss our approach to garnering insights from data rejected through our data quality process.

About Mourina :-

Mourina leads the Consumer data engineering team at Carsales focusing mainly on the data enablement needs of marketing and customer retensions teams.

Message to the Audience:

We will also have time after the talk(s) for a community noticeboard where folks will have around 60 seconds to pitch their wares - if you've got an awesome data job going or you are available to fill an awesome job or even that you've found a great open source tool that we should all be contributing to, this will be the time to let us know!

Future Talks:

Let us know if you've got something to talk about for the future meetups. Talks can run anywhere from 5-30 min. All skill levels welcome to present something - just about everything is new to someone!
