What is Data First London?

Mission: To empower people working in data to make better decisions

Data First London is a community of people who want to use data to make their company successful. They have their own ideas and opinions on how to be effective but want a forum to be challenged and learn from others. Analysts, data leads, data scientists, data engineers - driving better decision making with data.

The events of the past few months have meant that sadly we haven't been able to host any in-person events. But we're back (online)!

For regular updates about our events you can join our Slack channel here: https://dataform-users.slack.com/

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This event will predominantly focus on community member's experience with Dataform but we will also have talks on broader topics; everything from data stacks, to analytics engineering, to how to work remotely as a data team.

Speakers:

Mike Lee (Head of Data, Echo)- https://www.echo.co.uk/
How we de-centralised the data team at Echo

At Echo, the data team started life as a centralised function. Although this gave us a strong team identity, it also meant we were removed from the decision makers we wanted to help. We recently moved to a decentralised team and it's fundamentally changed the way people see the data team at Echo. This talk will be about our journey, and what we've learned moving the team around.

Ole Dallerup (CTO & Co-Founder, Dreamdata.io)- https://dreamdata.io/
How to build a data platform using Dataform

At Dreamdata.io we are building a B2B Attribution and Revenue Operations Platform. The B2B buyer journey is long and complicated and we are using Dataform as infrastructure to transform different data sources into one uniform data model we can build our analytics and prediction engine on.

Jim Lumsden (Growth Analyst, Prolific)- https://www.prolific.co/
"The Road to Data Democratisation: How Prolific set out to unify our data and unlock its potential"

Prolific is a fast growing marketplace startup that connects researchers (from both Academia and industry) with instant, high quality, global research participants. Delivering data is our product, and most of our team are fluent with stats and numbers: it's our common language.

Only one year ago we were data-stuck: running up against walls in off-the-shelf-analytics products, wrestling vital business questions we couldn't answer, and spending days of limited analyst time deriving insight. In this talk we'll tell the story of how we brought our data management back in house, and exposed our wealth of business data to the team using a cunning data-model (at least we think it's cunning!). I'll also explain how Snowplow, Dataform, and Metabase enabled us to achieve all this in a scalable, engineering-lite way.
