💡 It’s Not Just the Ad: How Meta Learned to Rank Everything Around It

🗣️ Ayelet Lejtman, Staff Machine Learning Engineer at MetaMost recommendation systems focus on ranking the main item—whether it’s the perfect product, ad, or video. But in high-impact environments like Meta, optimizing the presentation of that item can be just as critical. Which image best complements an ad? Which text overlay (“Best Seller,” “Limited Time”) will drive engagement? These “non-product” recommendations are often overlooked, yet they can be harder to model than the primary recommendation itself.
In this talk, I’ll share our team’s multi-year journey from early missteps to a robust, scalable ranking pipeline for creative elements that surround the main recommendation. We’ll explore:
Data collection and labeling strategies tailored to secondary recommendation targetsModel architectures and feature engineering approaches that work in large-scale environments
Lessons learned on experimentation speed, evaluation metrics, and failure patterns
Attendees will leave with actionable insights to design and deploy ranking models for any “artifact” that supports the main recommendation—whether in ads, e-commerce, or content platforms—so they can improve impact without overhauling their primary recommender system.

High-quality data is paramount for model accuracy, robustness, and reliability. This session explores the critical dimensions of data quality, including accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness, and their impact on AI performance.This session engages in a comprehensive framework outlining best practices for data collection, cleaning, and validation to mitigate common challenges such as bias, noise, and missing values. Moreover, case studies illustrating successful data enhancement initiatives across various industries underscore the transformative potential of investing in data quality. By fostering a culture of data stewardship and employing advanced technologies for data management, organizations can enhance their AI capabilities, leading to more insightful decision-making and improved outcomes.
Aarohi currently works as a Senior Data Engineer at CVS Health. She builds data pipelines to capture product adoption metrics and then use this data to send out recommendations for the opportunity analytics. Previously she worked with Walmart for the Workforce Management and Contact Center Analytics teams building large scale data pipelines and capturing metrics using PowerBI and Tableau.

🗣️ Niyati P, Software, ML LeadTraditional computer vision systems often rely solely on pixel-level features and deep learning to interpret images, limiting their ability to understand complex scenes or generalize across contexts. This talk introduces a new paradigm: context-aware vision systems powered by knowledge graphs. By embedding structured semantic knowledge into vision pipelines, machines can infer not just what is seen, but why it matters. We explore how knowledge graphs provide contextual cues—such as object relationships, scene hierarchies, and domain-specific constraints—that enhance visual perception and reasoning. From improving object recognition in ambiguous environments to enabling semantic scene parsing and zero-shot learning, this approach bridges the gap between raw visual data and high-level cognition. The session will highlight recent breakthroughs, implementation strategies using Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), and applications in domains like autonomous driving, medical imaging, and industrial robotics. Attendees will leave with insights on designing vision systems that not only see—but understand.

This session introduces the Competitor Response Planning (CRP) Suite, a pioneering solution that fuses geo-spatial intelligence with predictive modeling to help retailers proactively counter competitive impact.
Built on the theme of “Innovating with Data”, the CRP Suite is a three-pronged modeling framework designed to predict customer churn risk across New Competitor Advent, Existing Competitor Landscapes and Instore Media Optimization.
The session will showcase how the CRP Suite integrates retailer data with third-party sources to extract key variables—store DNA, customer behavior, and geo-location—and trains custom propensity models tailored to different competitor types.
