Dave Rooney - Using Data Science to understand your family history at Ancestry.com

Summary: With 100 million family trees, 20 billion records and more than 10 million DNA samples Ancestry has a unique set of data needs and opportunities. This talk helps explain how the company leverages the data built over the last 30 years to help people gain a new level of understanding about their lives. Learn about some of those efforts including BigTree, image recognition, NLP, DNA matching, and ethnicity estimation.

Ben Duffy - Insights into state of the art robotics and AI technologies

Summary: Ben will introduce the vision of MTank (www.themtank.com), including our most recent work. He'll talk about our main project, 'From Cups to Consciousness', an attempt to teach robots to do increasingly complicated tasks in the real world. For those wanting to get insights into state of the art robotics and AI technologies, e.g. Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Multi-Modal Methods, Reinforcement Learning, Navigation, Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM) and Manipulation/Grasping: Look no further! We'll also open the debate of how we envision the development of AI and robotics over the next few years.

Bio: Co-Founder and Lead Researcher, M Tank. Ben Duffy is a Computer Engineer/Data Scientist with experience in Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing and Reinforcement Learning, from both research and engineering standpoints. Together with the MTank team, he keeps up to date with the very frontier of research within these and related domains. By being fanatically obsessed with both the big picture view and specific details of how AI is progressing, he strives to impart this knowledge to the general public. This also helps him synthesise the necessary techniques to create generally intelligent machines in a multi-decade long pursuit.
