Maarten Vanhoof - Research Fellow @ UCL London - Insights from the inside: an overview of 4 years of research on mobile phone data

Maarten Vanhoof is an urban geographer and data scientist. In the past years he's been mining large quantities of mobile phone data to detect nation-wide patterns of human movement. He has a lengthy list of academic qualifications :-) and currently works as a research fellow at University College London. We're very lucky to welcome him at our meetup!

From curation to personalisation: The path to building a fully personalised Video On Demand platform.

Maarten’s interest in consumer applications of Machine Learning quickly brought him to the domain of Recommender Systems. After a few years in academia he joined the commercial broadcasting company Medialaan in 2015 as one of the first Data Scientists, working on Machine Learning applications for both internal tools as well as customer features. Today his team at Medialaan is focused on making sure each video interaction is fully tailored to the individual user’s taste & preferences. Recently, they launched VTM Go, a fully personalised online streaming platform.

Seppe vanden Broucke - Assistant Professor @ KU Leuven - Allocating a Constrained Marketing Budget over Belgian Municipalities: a Use Case (and Some Questions on Probability vs. Certainty)

Seppe is an alumni of KU Leuven. He finished his PhD in 2014, then went on to work as a post-doc and later assistant professor at his Alma Mater. His research interests include business data mining and analytics, machine learning, profit driven analytics, fraud analytics, process management, process mining.
