Three Strategies to Tackle Big Data in Python and R

Foo Café

Big Data might not be the buzzword it was five years ago, but it's more prevalent than ever. Even if you aren't currently dealing with Big Data, chances are that sooner or later you'll find yourself with a dataset that is just too big for your normal python or R setup to handle. In this Foo café event, the Data Science team at Castle.io will share three strategies that can be used to tackle Big Data in python and R. Three Big Data tools will be briefly introduced: duckDB, Spark, and SnowflakeDB.

The Data Science Malmö meetup is ramping up again and invites you to join this Foo Café event aimed at everybody working with or interested in data science.

## Speaker ##
Rasmus Bååth - Data Science lead at Castle.io, a Y combinator-backed startup building an AI-based security and fraud detection service. He's worked with Big Data in many different forms and knows that, while it can be a pain to handle Big Data, there can be great business value (and good career opportunities) knowing how to do so.

Data Revelry @ Jayway

Jayway by Devoteam

As we're now allowed to meet in person, the data people at Jayway want to throw a party to celebrate. And to that end, Jayway is hosting a meetup at their Malmo offices Nov. 9th. They will provide the beer and pizza from 18:00. At 19:00 we'll listen with a few talks from data people, a few drinks, and some general data revelry!

Anyone with a keen interest in data, both practitioners and enthusiasts, are welcome! Looking forward to seeing you in person!*

*All talks will also be available virtually, but sadly the beer and pizza will not.

## Talks ##

>> Analytics Engineering - Serverless dbt hosted on GCP <<
Speaker: Hugo Hjertén (Jayway)

Hugo has been part of the data foundation at Jayway for so long that he has become part of the furniture. He focuses on data engineering and has a passion for exploring new tools and writing clean code. He is also invested in propagating analytics driven decision making across teams and organizations.

>> Machine Learning on Code <<
Speaker: Emil Wåreus (Debricked)

Emil is one of the co-founders of Debricked, a startup in Malmö that provides a SaaS platform to manage the Open Source companies are using. With his team, Emil develops machine learning and data infrastructure to analyze all the open-source code in the world (yes, we have it all on bare metal). Emil will give a talk on how to make Open Source searchable, and how his team leverages machine learning to search code with natural language.

>> Machine Learning and Digital Joint Pain Treatment <<
Emma Sjögren (Joint Academy)

Emma is a Data scientist at Joint Academy and live in Malmö. She studied Engineering Mathematics at LTH and started working in 2019 as a data science consultant. Since Jan 2021 she has been combining cool ML techniques with healthcare at Joint Academy. In the majority of her spare time she practices belly dancing.

Intro to Neo4j: The Data Science Graph Database

Foo Café

Neo4j is a graph database. What does that mean? What's it used for? What can it do for me? Does it have something to do with GraphQL? We'll answer these questions and more with this introduction to Neo4j with a mix of presentation, demonstration and hands-on experimentation.

This Foo Café event is jointly organized by the Data Science Malmö and Neo4j-Öresund meetups and aimed at everybody working with or interested in data science.

## Speaker ##
Andreas Kollegger - Community platform lead at Neo4j, the company that created the graph database category and is driving innovation in graph data science. His path started with a graph epiphany while working on Zambia's national health system, and now he continues to make the world a better place through applied graph thinking.
