Meetup #14: Let's meet Julia! (bonus: *hack session*)

Details
We're back after a break. The next meetup covers Julia - a more exotic exotic programming language, which however can give some advantages for tackling data science problems. We are glad to have Mirko who will introduce us to Julia (sounds like a soap opera theme - but isn't). Plus, Mirko prepares a hack session so DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR LAPTOPS.
The DigitalHub hosts us again and we look very much forward to seeing y'all very soon.

"Let's meet Julia!"
Mirko Bunse
Mirko is a research associate at the Artificial Intelligence Group from TU Dortmund University. His work is focused on supervised learning from massive amounts of telescope data, a topic about which he held several talks at scientific conferences.
Abstract: Data science implementations often require a high amount of flexibility, yet their throughput must eventually allow for deployment at scale. However, there is a certain trade-off between these goals: flexibility is often attributed to dynamic programming languages (like Python, R), while performance is mostly associated with static languages (like C). But wait a minute - haven't you met Julia yet? Let us introduce you to a programming language which employs modern concepts from language and compiler design to break this nasty trade-off.
After the talk, we will have a hack session in which you can try Julia yourself. So bring your laptops! You don't need to pre-install anything. We will share a link to a Jupyter Notebook with you that lives in the cloud and has all necessary dependencies installed.
See you soon,
Tobias²
