Welcome to the second round of the Data Science Melbourne Internship program! We launched this program at our inaugural conference in May this year. We’re now kick starting the next round, in time to create some summer internships.

Essentially what we’re doing is providing a mechanism by which to connect employers with novice data scientists who are seeking practical work experience. This applies to undergrads, postgrads, people who recently finished their studies, and even professionals looking for a career change into data science. The nature of the internship is completely up to the intern and the employer (ie part-time vs full-time, number of hours etc).

We have 12 companies that are looking to take on interns, and they will give short 5 minute presentations about themselves. There will then be a meet and greet session and we will explain how you can apply for the positions.

Companies confirmed for participation and presentation at this event are:

• Zendesk

• Seek

• Trendsmap

• Immersive

• iSelect

• Silverpond

• Yellowfin

• Forefront Analytics

Here are some photos from organisations that participated in the first round of the program (Zendesk, iSelect and KPMG).

It's a great program! But don't just take our word for it, here's what one of the interns, Naylyn Gaffney, had to say about the first round:

The Data Science Melbourne Internship Program has been a great experience for me. Since starting at iSelect I have had the opportunity to develop my skills while engaging with real data science problems. The data team at iSelect has provided the support and mentoring I need in a friendly and welcoming environment. I strongly recommend the program to anyone looking to take their first steps into a data science career.
