What we're about

This is a knowledge sharing community for men and women working towards data science (or data-focused) careers within and around Berkshire, England. Whether you are a student seeking a rewarding career in data science, or an expert with decades of experience, we would love to have you join this growing community which provides a great environment for people in the field of data science to be inspired to make their dreams become reality.

Meetup activities will include themed-social events, technical talks, workshops and participation in global data science conferences. Meetings will be open to ideas from members and anyone can recommend a speaker...

Events are open for people of all gender. Let's come together to learn and network.

Introduction to power analysis in A/B testing: Deciding how long to run tests

Jonny Brooks-Bartlett (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathan-brooks-bartlett-2b5bb2b1/) will be speaking on power analysis in A/B testing. Jonny is a data scientist at Deliveroo currently working on developing algorithms to improve the consumer experience on the Deliveroo app. __________________________________________________________ What to Expect: Being part of an agile company means that new features are typically released iteratively. However, these features often need to be experimented with to work out if it's actually a beneficial feature to completely roll out. These experiments take time to run and we need analysts to determine how long the experiments need to run. In this presentation, we will learn about the reasons why these experiments can take a long time to run and how we work out the length of time it should take. For those of us who would like a more hands on introduction, we will practice on some open data and perform our own A/B test. All that's required is a laptop with Python installed. We also recommend that you install Jupyter Notebooks as well but this is not a requirement. _________________________________________________________ Agenda: 18:00 Welcome, drinks and networking 18:45 Talk and open data A/B testing practice 19:45 Announcements and Open Floor __________________________________________________________ This event is organised in collaboration with Central Working, the UK’s premier homegrown shared workspace provider, transforming the way people work and companies grow. Introduction to RapidMiner

Central Working

Please join us for an evening of learning about how to use RapidMiner for data science. Our speaker is Andrew Chisholm (https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrew-chisholm-72836b). Andrew is a data scientist and product manager working in the telecommunications industry. He has been using RapidMiner for nearly 10 years. Andrew is a certified RapidMiner Master and has created an on-line RapidMiner training material. He has also authored and edited books about RapidMiner and Data Mining in general. __________________________________________________________ What to Expect: RapidMiner is an easy to use environment for data science. The clue is in the name: RapidMiner. It really is the work of a few minutes to rapidly create a machine learning model without having to write any software. Of course, there is a learning curve, and this talk will give a basic introduction and overview based on an expert's view but aimed at beginners. The intention is to help get you up the learning curve more quickly, make a first model, and help you decide if you could use RapidMiner in your day-to-day work. _________________________________________________________ Agenda: 18:00 Welcome, grab a beer 18:15 Introductions 18:45 Talk - Introduction to RapidMiner 19:45 Announcements and Open Floor __________________________________________________________ This event is organised in collaboration with Central Working, the UK’s premier homegrown shared workspace provider, transforming the way people work and companies grow.
