Data Science meetup - July 2019: Is DataOps the end of DevOps?

• What we'll do At this meetup we will be joined by Suresh Ganesh Bose, Senior Manager - Consulting (Associate Director) at Cognizant Business Consulting. Suresh will deliver a 30-45min talk on the topic of "Is DataOps the end of DevOps?" According to Phythian, DataOps is forecast to be one of the top 7 Big Data Analytics trends in 2019. DataOps is a new data analytics technology in the modern digital world. Some feel DataOps is nothing but DevOps for data but it is even beyond that. In simple terms, you combine DevOps with data analytics to get DataOps. DataOps applies Agile and DevOps methods to the entire data analytics lifecycle. DevOps ensures seamless collaboration between developers, Testing and IT Ops admins while DataOps does the same including Data operators and Data consumers. As DevOps focuses on automating the entire pipeline of continuous integration, continuous delivery and continuous deployment, DataOps orchestrates monitors and manages the entire data pipeline deploying new analytics into the overall pipeline. The cloud migrations have become slow with the increasing amount of data volume which further adds more complexities to manage the different data elements but DataOps strengthens the Enterprise Data Value Chain and overcome the current challenges. This talk will highlight how DataOps compliments DevOps and does not eradicate DevOps. Suresh will detail how sensitive data can be governed effectively ensuring compliance with GDPR, HIPAA and other regulations. • What to bring An open mind and ears with a readiness to chat with fellow meetup peeps! • Timings: 7pm-7.15pm Welcome, Intros and Pizza/Drinks[masked]pm "Is DataOps the end of DevOps?"[masked]pm Q&A[masked]pm Speaker 2 TBC 8.45pm to close: Final Q&A • Important to know We now have an excellent new venue provided by Barclays Eagle Labs! • What we'll do At this meetup we will ask everyone attending to suggest the topics and/or speakers they would like to hear from at future meetup events. We can then run a Lean Coffee style session where, in small groups, you can pitch, vote and then discuss any topics that you want to share with your group. We'll explain how this works in more detail on the night. • What to bring Some topic ideas and suggestions. • Important to know

Data Science meetup - September 2019: Data Science from the Command Line

• What we'll do Andrew Collier from Exegetic Analytics will deliver his talk "Data Science from the Command Line". Andrew is a freelance Data Scientist (https://twitter.com/exegeticdata), working at the interface between Academia and Industry. He spends most of his time in R, Python, SQL and the BASH, but dabbles in a wide range of other technologies. R and Python are phenomenal tools for Data Science. But you can achieve a lot using simple command line tools too. And sometimes doing pre-processing on the command line can make your work in R or Python more efficient. In this talk we'll discuss a selection of Linux command line tools which can massively boost a Data Science workflow. - Downloading data (`wget` and `curl`) - Hitting an API (`curl` again) - Manipulating CSV ([csvkit](https://csvkit.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) and `awk`) - Working with text (`grep`, `tr` and `sed`) - Sorting and deduplication (`sort` and `uniq`) - Scripts: More than a one-liner - Iteration - Parallel execution - Handling dependencies (`make`) • What to bring Some open ears, eyes and minds. • Important to know Our meetup venue is kindly provided by Barclays Eagle Labs! The address is: Network Eagle Labs, Portland Terrace, Southampton SO14 7SJ This is opposite Asda/Old Mutal in central Southampton, very close to the mainline train station and the numerous car parks nearby.
