Zapraszamy na Data Science Warsaw meetup 20 czerwca o 18:00. Spotkamy się na Wydziale Matematyki i Nauk Informacyjnych Politechniki Warszawskiej, w sali 107. W programie dwie prezentacje:

1. Edukacja, samorozwój i rekrutacja specjalistów danych - wnioski z projektu EDISON. Tomasz Wiktorski & Yuri Demchenko

The emergence of Data Science technologies is having an impact on nearly every aspect of research and innovation. The education and training of Data Scientists currently lacks a commonly accepted, harmonized instructional model that should reflect the whole lifecycle of data handling in modern, data driven research and the digital economy.
The EU-funded EDISON Project is putting in place foundation mechanisms that will speed-up the increase in the number of competent and qualified Data Scientists across Europe and beyond. The EDISON initiative is doing this through various measures aimed at reducing the gap between the supply side of educators and trainers and the demand side of employers. The EDISON Data Science Framework (EDSF) is based around a group of tightly related documents namely the Competence Framework, the Body of Knowledge and the Model Curriculum. EDSF can help companies in understanding skillset of their employees and identifying, recruiting and inspiring the data science professionals of the future. For individuals EDSF can provide a guidance in further professional development.

Tomasz Wiktorski is an Associate Professor at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Stavanger, Norway. He received his MSc from Lodz University of Technology, Poland in 2007 (including scholarships at Carnegie Mellon University, USA and University of Alicante, Spain) and his PhD from University of Stavanger, Norway in 2011 (including scholarship at Stanford University, USA). His work focuses on data science and data-intensive computing, including in particular storage and analysis of time series. He is a part of EDISON project, where his work focuses on the development of Model Curriculum.

Yuri Demchenko is a Senior Researcher at the System and Network Engineering of the University of Amsterdam, he is teaching Big Data Engineering and Cloud Computing. He graduated from the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kiev Polytechnic Institute" where he also received his PhD degree. His research areas include Data Science, Big Data Infrastructure and services, cloud and Intercloud architecture, security and infrastructure for cloud based services and data centric applications.Yuri is involved in a number of research and innovation European projects such as CYCLONE, GEANT. He is a coordinator of the European project EDISON that is focused on building a new profession of Data Scientist for European research and industry that includes also wide international collaboration. The developed in the project the EDISON Data Science Framework (EDSF) has been supported by many projects and initiatives in Europe and worldwide, it is also cited in a number of industry and higher-education studies.Yuri is actively contributing to the standardisation activity at RDA, CEN, IEEE, IETF, NIST on defining Big Data Architecture Framework, Intercloud architecture for complex infrastructure services provisioning in clouds, and Data Science competence and skills framework.

2. Kilka przykładów z praktyki modelowania predykcyjnego. Artur Suchwałko

Podczas prezentacji pokażę kilka przykładów z mojej praktyki modelowania predykcyjnego: przewidywanie odchodzenia klientów, prognozowanie szeregu czasowego i przykład bardzo niestandardowy. Zajmę się głównie doborem adekwatnej (czyli odpowiednio złożonej i o odpowiednich właściwościach) metody oraz tym, co dzieje się na styku biznesu i modelowania. W obu tych elementach według mnie najłatwiej popełnić błąd o dużych konsekwencjach.

Artur Suchwałko, Data Scientist, właściciel firmy QuantUp.pl Artur ma dwudziestoletnie doświadczenie w projektach analitycznych. Pracował dla różnych firm, od start-upów po międzynarodowe korporacje i w różnych rolach, od pracownika, przez konsultanta, po właściciela. Jest doświadczonym programistą oraz menedżerem projektów. Przez kilkanaście lat pracy statystyka w banku zajmował się głównie budową modeli predykcyjnych i tworzeniem oprogramowania do ich budowy. W tym samym czasie został doktorem matematyki i napisał kilkanaście prac naukowych. Od sześciu lat rozwija z sukcesem swoją firmę QuantUp (http://quantup.pl/), zajmującą się analizą danych, modelowaniem statystycznym i tworzeniem oprogramowania oraz szkoleniami z tych dziedzin. Przeprowadził przynajmniej kilkadziesiąt projektów i kilka tysięcy godzin komercyjnych szkoleń z głębszej analityki biznesowej. Jest współwłaścicielem, Vice CEO i CSO szwedzkiej firmy bioinformatycznej MedicWave. Od kilkunastu lat wykorzystuje w biznesie darmowe oprogramowanie (głównie R) i promuje jego używanie. Jest fanem R i współautorem wydanej w PWN książki o prognozowaniu w R.
