Tampa Bay Data Scientists!

We are extremely privileged to have George Everitt, Managing Director of AnActionPlan, presenting on applied data methodologies in international finance.

Abstract: Structured information from databases and unstructured information from documents don't always play well together. Epinomy is a software package that uses taxonomies and graphs to create links between structured data and unstructured content in innovative ways. This presentation talks about using semantic techniques to auto-tag content using the power of taxonomy and a reverse query engine, joining together the macroeconomic indicators from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) with the documents that talk about them.

Biography: George Everitt has worked with big data since 1989, specializing in semantic search, auto-tagging, graph theory and information retrieval. Key project he's worked on include the mapping weapons of mass destruction (WMD) sites in Iraq for UN Resolution 1441, Indexing 100+ years of advertising and corporate history for The Coca Cola Company for instant retrieval, and the first faceted search version of http://epicurious.com for Conde Nast.

The intent of this meeting is to bring together people in the Tampa Bay and surrounding areas involved or interested in data science or related professions.

There will be presentations and discussions surrounding trends, issues, news, and directions in data science.

Please come, enjoy, and help us build this community!
