TBDSG: The Rise of Immediate Intelligence, Intro to Apache Druid

Details

What a long strange trip it's been! Just when we thought it was safe to go back inside, along came Omicron. So our first post coronageddon meeting will be in the cloud. I've been resistant to zoom meetings (and the virus hopefully) because the face-to-(3D)face interaction has always been important to me.

That said, the Imply team made me an offer I can't refuse so I decided to give Zoom a chance for this meeting. If there is sufficient interest in the new technology, they've graciously offered some in person meetings to drill down into more details. And if group members are interested in more zoom meetings, maybe we'll do that as well.

I'll get busy trying to find a new physical venue, maybe for a March meeting.

We'll kick this one off at 6:30. I've also blocked out some time after questions if people would like to catch up.

Here are the topic details. You'll get the zoom link when you RSVP. Hope to see your smiling 2D faces soon!

Abstract:
Decision making is changing: Apache Druid is a new type of database for creating the next generation of analytics applications that maximize flexible exploration over fresh, fast-arriving data. In this talk, Sergio Ferragut (Developer Advocate in Imply's Community Team) introduces these new "immediate intelligence" applications, tells the story of Druid's emergence, and describes how data pipelines built with Druid differ from those you may already be familiar with.

Speaker's bio:
Sergio Ferragut is a database veteran turned Developer Advocate at Imply. His experience includes 16 years at Teradata in professional services and engineering roles. He has direct experience in building analytics applications spanning the retail, supply chain, pricing optimization and IoT spaces. Sergio has worked at multiple technology start-ups including APL and Splice Machine where he helped guide product design and field messaging.
