Data Science for Social Good

Join us as David Chan tells us about his experience at the Data Science for Social Good Conference in Chicago.

The Data Science for Social Good Conference (https://dssg.uchicago.edu/data-science-for-social-good-conference-2017/) is a University of Chicago led conference to highlight the successes, opportunities, and challenges faced by the growing Data Science for Social Good community. The second annual conference was hosted in the fall of 2017, and brought together over 300 experts from academia, industry, and not-for-profits to exchange knowledge and best practices. David will present highlights from the conference, key takeaways, and useful resources discussed at the event. He will also describe the Data Science for Social Good Fellowship (https://dssg.uchicago.edu/) program, which aims to train aspiring data scientists by pairing them up with governments and not-for-profit organizations to tackle real-world problems.

David Chan is part of the data science team at Cybera, an Alberta based not-for-profit organization striving to drive the adoption of new technologies for the public good in Alberta. David has been studying data science since 2012 and has been a Data for Good Calgary member since 2014. David is a PhD graduate from the University of Calgary, where he used high performance computing to investigate protein dynamics and interactions in atomistic detail. @dch4n
