This session is part of a series titled DataLearn that will bring together some of the best names in the social good and tech space to introduce you to interesting sub-domains that come under the umbrella of Data-for-Good. This is a sincere effort of ours to build a platform for learning, sharing and networking. We hope to build a passionate community of data do-gooders who can think beyond data and push the horizons of doing data science for social good.

As part of this series, we are having our Fourth session titled 'Let's do Data Science : A Song of Ice and Fire'. We'll have an expert coordinating with other awesome volunteers from DataKind community to conduct the hands-on workshop.

Overview

In this workshop, we will learn to scrape reviews from a popular book-review website. We will then do some analytics on the reviews.

Software/Packages required

Please refer to the repo: https://github.com/rouseguy/hackathon-asoiaf for installation instructions.

Installation instructions will be up 3 days before the event (by 20th October 2016). Please install the required packages before coming for the event.

We will be using R for this workshop.

He is a Data Scientist at Cisco Systems, India. He has 12 years of experience delivering business analytics solutions to Investment Banks, Entertainment Studios and High-Tech companies. He has given talks and conducted workshops on Data Science, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Optimization in Python and R in India and abroad. He has a Masters in Statistics from University of Maryland, College Park, USA. He is an ardent NBA fan
