About the talk:
Writing code for complex deep learning research experiments tends to be... complex. Prototyping new research ideas can get painful when training on massive data sets or multi-layered deep networks. It requires nontrivial engineering: huge codebases to maintain and debug, tons of boilerplate to scale to distributed hardware, and creates a lot of room for errors. PyTorch Lightning is a lightweight machine learning framework that handles most of the engineering work, leaving you to focus on the science. It sets a standard on how to structure your deep learning PyTorch code, decoupling research from engineering. Lightning ensures that when your network becomes complex your code doesn’t. In this talk we'll demonstrate how you can quickly convert your model to lightning and run your models on any hardware, using all the latest SOTA features without losing any flexibility.

About William Falcon:
William Falcon is the creator of the popular open-source project PyTorch Lightning, and the recently announced Grid AI. William created Lightning while doing his PhD at NYU and as a PhD researcher at Facebook AI; Lightning allows users to scale models without the boilerplate and Grid enables large-scale training on the cloud.

Previously he co-founded the now acquired NextGenVest and spent time at Goldman Sachs.

His PhD (currently on leave to focus on Lightning), is funded by Google Deepmind and NSF Foundation. His research interest is in unsupervised learning and the intersection of AI and neuroscience.

William is a native of Venezuela and holds a BA from Columbia University in Computer Science and Statistics, with a minor in Math.
