What we’re about

Data for Good, simply put, is a way for people to contribute to the betterment of society using their expertise in data science. We exist to empower the world’s social change makers by making their data speak to them more clearly, thus allowing them to do what they do best even better.

Vancouver's chapter began in 2017 with co-founders Peter Kim and Peter Lin ("Peter Squared"). The national organization was born in 2013 through the dedication of co-founders Joy Robson and Victor Anjos, Data for Good now has five active chapters across Canada (and still growing!).

At our core, we participate at the intersection of data science and social justice, computer coding and philanthropy, data-informed insights and real world impact.

Our passionate contributors come from diverse professional, cultural, and demographic backgrounds, helping to shape what we do. We exist to empower the world’s social change-makers by making their data speak to them more clearly, thus allowing them to do what they do best, even better.

Data for Good is also a consultancy, helping organizations understand the type of information that can be useful to their mission and how to unlock its value. Our work gives meaning to the numbers and illuminates a path forward through actionable insight.
